Teach Your Child in 20 Minutes a Day with Teach My Learning Kits #TWCMgifts

It’s been a long road, but both my kids are finally in school this year. I firmly believe that parents are the most important teachers our kids will ever have, and we should be working closely with school teachers to help our kids succeed. That means I have a key role to play in teaching my kids not just how to play hopscotch and cross their eyes, or how to wash their hands and wash the dishes, but also the basic skills and knowledge they need to prepare for school and to help them succeed once they get there.

But if you’re like me, you may not know where to start. Teach My learning kits are carefully curated to gather all the resources in one place to help you teach your baby, toddler, or preschooler basic skills like colours, shapes, numbers, the alphabet, writing, reading, and math.

We received a Teach My Preschooler learning kit for Kay to try out. Inside the sturdy green box are four clear pouches labeled Reading, Printing, Numbers 1-100, and Math that contain everything you need to teach that subject. I really appreciate how everything is so organized. The learning kit also comes with a teaching guide that introduces the materials and how to use them, as well as providing some tips to help you and your child succeed. More detailed instructions are included in the materials in each subject pouch so you know exactly what you’re supposed to do.Teach My learning kits gather all the resources you need to teach your baby, toddler, or preschooler basic skills and knowledge to give them a head start for school.

Right now Kay’s in school half days, three days a week, and we’ve been doing this on the days she isn’t in school. The recommended 20 minutes is a good length of time, but if she wants to continue I don’t insist on shutting it down. Kay loves her Teach My kit, and I love seeing how excited she is to learn.

Her favourite activity is the magic drawing board that comes in the printing set. It comes with four sets of transparencies: upper case letters, lower case letters, and two sets of 0-9 (allowing us to create double digit numbers). Each transparency fits under the yellow frame so she can trace over it on the magnetic board.

There’s enough space on the board for three transparencies side by side, which just happens to be enough space to write KAY! Now that’s a proud smile!

Kay hasn’t quite learned all of her letters so we haven’t started working on the reading set just yet, but I don’t think it’ll be long. In fact, by working on her printing, she’s rapidly learning to identify and name each one. Once she can identify the entire alphabet, we’ll be ready to move on to the ten-step reading set with these booklets, 60 flash cards, and a word tin.

Kay already knows her numbers from 1 to 20, so now we’re working on extending that up to 100. I like the little foam numbers that come in this set. I think the different modalities of looking, touching, and matching the numbers help to reinforce her learning. The math learning set works similarly, with foam numbers, foam tokens, and visual representations of addition and subtraction.

I love how much room there is for Kay to grow and learn with this. She’s just at the beginning of the learning curve in the preschooler kit, and I’m sure she’s going to get so much out of it as we continue. This seems like a good resource for homeschooling parents too.
