Create a Relaxing Space with Sensory Tools from FDMT {Giveaway}

Sensory play is crucial to a child’s overall development, especially for those who might have sensory processing challenges. Sensory play helps kids explore and understand the world around them while building important cognitive, physical, and emotional skills. Sensory toys can help children develop those skills, aid in socio-emotional learning, and provide therapeutic benefits such as helping children calm down and self-regulate when they become overwhelmed or anxious.

Sensory toys can come in a wide range of textures, shapes, and materials designed to provide diverse sensory experiences and stimulate various senses, including touch, sight, sound, taste, and even smell. Sensory play doesn’t have to be limited to particular toys though. Sensory play can be integrated into everyday activities like cooking, bathing, gardening, or playing in the sand.

If your child has sensory processing difficulties or is on the autism spectrum, it’s best to consult with an occupational therapist or other healthcare professional for guidance on selecting appropriate sensory toys and activities tailored to your child’s needs. But all children benefit from sensory play!

FDMT carries a great assortment of sensory tools and toys to create a calm and serene atmosphere that encourages kids of all ages to relax, self-soothe, and self-regulate. We really like FDMT light-up bubble tubes for this purpose. The colours, floating fish, and gentle hum of the pump make them ideal to enhance any sensory space. Bubble tubes come in two sizes: the 28 cm Bubblebloom Mini Bubble Tube for small spaces and the full-size 82 cm Bubblebeam Bubble Tube for bigger spaces.

For something that looks so impressive, bubble tubes are very simple to set up. The tube is empty when you take it out of the box for the first time. Fill it with water (FDMT recommends using distilled water), add the little plastic fish included in the box, put the lid back on, and plug it in. That’s it!

The lights transition smoothly from white to blue to green to yellow to red to purple and back to white again. The constant stream of bubbles and the colourful fish moving up and down the tube are hypnotic and so relaxing to watch. A bubble tube can also act as a night light, but there isn’t an on/off switch so you’ll need to unplug it when you go out. I do recommend placing it on a hard surface as carpet can make it a bit unsteady and water could spill over the top.

We also love the Jellyzen Oval Jellyfish Lamp. The oval-shaped light-up tank contains graceful jellyfish that constantly float and drift through the water. The gentle, variable light creates a mesmerizing underwater atmosphere to help kids relax and soothe themselves. I appreciate that the tank is compact enough that it can sit on my child’s nightstand as an easily accessible aid to help them relax before bedtime.
