Last month I introduced you to this 25 Days of Christmas kit that promised to help me organize simple daily activities throughout the month of December and make family memories. We recently got news that a family member has been diagnosed with a very serious illness, and that has made it difficult for us to feel the usual anticipation and joy of the season. But with two little girls, it was important to us to keep the magic alive for them as much as possible. I’m glad we had this kit to help us do that.
I wanted to update you on how we’ve been using this kit. The Instructions card that accompanies the kit offers several suggestions for how to introduce the day’s activity. You can put an envelope on your breakfast table for the kids to open each day or display the cards as a garland and open one each day. My favourite suggestion was to have a mini treasure hunt for the day’s envelope. My girls can’t read, so this was the best way to get them involved as much as possible.
I don’t want to ruin the surprise of these cards, but I can tell you we’ve already visited Santa, had a fun picnic dinner under the tree, and made an ornament to hang on our tree. None of the suggested activities are onerous. It’s just a wonderful way to organize the family to actually do the things that we keep meaning to get to.
I really like this kit’s flexibility to fit any family and family routine. The box comes with 35 cards to pick from, so you can easily do one card a day for the full 25 days. But you can also do it part-time like we are, or create your own 12 Days of Christmas. It’s easy to customize. Just decide which activities you want to do on which days. This kit can be enjoyed year after year and would make a wonderful new family tradition!
