2019 in Review: Blog Highlights and Top Posts of the Year

Goodbye, 2019. Hello, 2020!

Another year has passed here at This West Coast Mommy, and it’s been a busy one! It’s been six and a half years since I pressed “publish” on my very first post (this one you’re reading right now is post #1697 if you were curious), and things sure have changed since then. My toddler and baby are now in grade 4 and grade 2 respectively, and what started out as a passion project has turned into a comfortable income stream for my family and the chance to share my thoughts with a community of like-minded moms.

As my kids have gotten older, our recent content has been naturally shifting away from cloth diaper and baby item reviews. But don’t worry, I love sharing the knowledge and experience gained from parenting my own kids, and I have no plans to stop being a resource in this area. Besides, getting to share readers’ birth stories is still one of my favourite aspects of blogging!

As we create less cloth diapering and babywearing content, we have started experiencing and sharing more family travel posts. With two children of my own, I know firsthand the challenges that families can face when travelling with kids, and I love being able to share what has been helpful for us as well as identifying places, attractions, and accommodations that go the extra mile. This summer we visited an amazing guest ranch in Colorado and experienced the ultimate in family-friendly luxury. We also visited Denver, Seattle, and Whistler and ended up with lots of great recommendations for things to do with your kids when you’re visiting.

Over the past year, This West Coast Mommy has had about 500,000 unique visitors. Wow! I’m so grateful to all the readers, new and old, who have taken the time to visit. I especially want to thank those of you who come back over and over, who’ve gotten to know me and my family. At the end of every year, I like to take a look back to see which posts were the most popular, how many people visited, and how our readers find us. If you’re a stats nerd like me or just curious, here are some of the highlights from This West Coast Mommy for 2019.

Top 10 Posts

Our most popular posts this year were a mix of cloth diapering resources (so we will definitely continue to write those posts for those of you interested in cloth) and seasonal riddles/knock-knock jokes (who knew these would be such a hit?), two of our most popular recipes, and a DIY post that’s still racking up views and repins on Pinterest. Did you miss any of these? Take a look!

Traffic Sources

But how are people finding This West Coast Mommy? Here are our top traffic sources for 2019. Organic Google searches are far and away my main source of traffic, bringing in close to 70% of the visits to the blog. This year, Pinterest was #2, and Facebook #3. These three are our main referral sources, sending 85% of our visitors.

After that comes other search engine traffic from Bing and Yahoo, then visitors from our email newsletter, and then DuckDuckGo searches. Next comes referrals from Twitter and Contestgirl (my favourite giveaway listing site). Yummly, the largest food site in the world, rounds out the list.
