This is our second frame from Nixplay, and I can attest to how easy Nixplay frames are to set up right out of the box. As soon as you plug in the frame, on-screen prompts walk you through the simple set up and connecting to Wi-Fi. Even the most technologically-challenged person should be able to get it showing photos within a few minutes. I really like the 4:3 aspect ratio and wider bezel that make this frame look a lot more like a traditional picture frame as opposed to a tablet.

Nixplay makes it really easy to add photos to your frame, either from your computer or using the Nixplay app (available on Android and iOs) on your phone. The app is the easiest way to create photo playlists straight from your phone’s camera feed and send them wirelessly to up to five different photo frames, but you can also share your photos and videos from Facebook, Instagram, Dropbox, Flickr, and Google Photos, or upload them securely to Nixplay’s free online cloud storage. Nixplay smart frames even work with Alexa – just ask for the playlist you want.

Like other Nixplay frames, you have plenty of choices to customize the display. You can select the transition style between photos. Set the time interval between photo transitions (from 5 seconds to one hour). Decide whether to display the time and date, and add optional captions for your pictures.

Smart Photo Frames can be displayed in either landscape (horizontal) or portrait (vertical) orientation, and displayed either using the reinforced power cord that doubles as a stand or hung up on the wall. A small panel on the back slides off to reveal wall mount holes. It’s a nice added feature, but you’ll still see the black power cord coming out the back of the frame unless you run it through the wall. Because of that, I prefer to display my frame on my sofa table or bookshelf, but I’m sure others will appreciate the added flexibility.

Nixplay’s Smart Photo Frames contain an energy-saving, integrated Hu-Motion sensor that detect movement and turn the frame on and off automatically when people enter and leave the room. This frame also comes with a magnetic remote which can theoretically be stored on the back of the frame when not in use. However, do be careful because it doesn’t feel 100% secure to me, and I’d hate for the remote to fall onto a hard floor if the frame is jarred. Alternatively, the Nixplay app has a virtual remote function so it’s always at hand when you need it.

1280 x 800 High Definition

Nixplay’s next gen Smart Photo Frame also comes in a more affordable 10.1″ Smart Photo Frame with a 1280 x 800 High Definition 16:10 aspect ratio display. Like its 9.7″ sibling, this frame works with your social media sites, smart home assistants, and cloud drive. While the resolution is a bit lower, the difference is only noticeable in a side-by-side comparison. The picture quality is still top notch, and it also comes with wall mount holes, motion sensor, and remote control.
