You might have noticed a lot of book reviews on the blog lately. I think it’s safe to say I’m a bibliophile! There’s just something so special about opening up a new book for the first time. The smell and feel of that crisp paper under my hands. The magic and wonder hidden within the covers. Reading has always been one of my favourite pastimes, and I’m resolved to pass that love along to my kids. I’m always on the lookout for books that I hope will capture my girls’ imaginations and foster their love of reading.
I started seeing and hearing about Lost My Name a few months ago and really wanted to see what the buzz was about. The three dads and an uncle behind these gorgeous personalized books kindly sent us a copy of The Little Girl Who Lost Her Name just in time for Tee’s birthday.
It was very easy to order. The book comes in boy and girl versions, so just choose one and enter your child’s name. There’s also an option to add a personal dedication (like I did). Then you can preview your book to see exactly what it will look like.
When a little girl wakes up one morning and discovers her name is lost, she sets off on a journey to find it again. From the T in Troll to the E in Eagle, the various creatures she meets along the way give the little girl letters to help her find her name again.
Every child loves reading their name, and Tee’s no exception. In fact, she’s been reading this on her own with just a little help from hubs or from me. Personally, I love the expressive illustrations. So many books for children use cutesy pastel drawings, but I really like Pedro Serapicos’ darker and more textured style of illustration.
The full colour cover and pages are heavy, high-quality, Rainforest Alliance certified card stock and will definitely stand up to repeated readings. My only wish would be for Lost My Name to offer a hardcover option as well.
And if you order the gift wrap option, your book comes in this pretty, coordinating green envelope.
