Is there anything more exciting than a new baby? Absolutely not!
Having done the newborn baby thing twice, I was so grateful for the gifts that family and friends brought, both at my baby shower and after the baby was born. Can you guess what else I was grateful for? The gifts of food and time! Thank goodness for those thoughtful friends who brought precooked or frozen meals (don’t forget to check for allergies!) along with that cute teddy bear, or who offered to watch the baby while I got my first shower for the week.
Everybody loves celebrating baby’s arrival with a gift! Whether for a baby shower or just a welcome to the world present, I’ve teamed up with Go Green Baby, a baby boutique based in Kingston, Ontario, to bring you our favourite new baby gift ideas, next to dinner and a nap of course!
Cloth Diapers
More and more families are cloth diapering these days. With a growing appreciation for the environmental, health, and money saving benefits of using cloth, it’s no longer unusual to see cloth diapers on a baby shower wish list. The AMP One Size Duo pocket diaper ($20-21) is a popular choice because of its ease of use and laundering and wide range of adorable colours and prints. Plus AMP is made in Canada!
Other popular made in Canada cloth diaper brands include AppleCheeks and Bummis. My own diaper stash contained all three of these brands, and I never hesitate to recommend them.
Baby Carrier
As far as I’m concerned, a stretchy wrap like this Moby Wrap ($75) is a must have for any new mom. Wraps are perfectly adjustable for petite up to plus size mamas, and they’re fantastic for hands free carrying, promoting skin-to-skin contact, and reducing crying. And when mama’s up all night with a colicky baby, a Moby Wrap will help her comfort baby without tiring out her back and arms.
Tula Baby Carriers are also tremendously popular both for their versatility and beautiful prints. These dad-friendly soft structured carriers go on easily with adjustable straps and buckles, and they can be used right into toddlerhood.
Padraig Slippers
Every Canadian baby needs a pair of handmade Padraig Slippers ($30+). These highly sought after crocheted wool slippers are the height of luxury. Each pair is made with an extra soft sheepskin lining and leather soles.
Natural Wood Teethers & Toys
Many families try to avoid possible toxins and contaminants by giving locally made, natural wood teethers and toys. Go Green Baby has their own line of Re-Wood Toys teethers, rattles, and toys (starting at $6). Natalie’s husband Jamin hand makes each item giving otherwise unusable locally sourced hard woods new life as a non-toxic teether or wonderful heirloom toy.
Muslin Swaddling Blankets
Swaddling blankets are a classic baby shower gift because they’re so versatile! Aden + Anais Bamboo Swaddling Blankets ($50) are a twist on this old classic made from soft, luxurious rayon from bamboo. This lightweight and breathable muslin is ideal for swaddling, but the blankets can also be used as burp cloths, nursing and stroller covers, portable crib sheets, stroller and car seat liners, tummy time blankets, change table covers, and more. Older kids love playing with these too – here comes Super Big Sister with her cape!
Baby Safe Stuffed Toy
Every baby needs a teddy bear! Cuddle Bears are made from 100% sheepskin, baby safe eyes and nose, and a securely attached velvet ribbon. Wool is breathable, flame retardant, hypoallergenic, and natural resistant to dirt, smells, and bacteria, making this an excellent first bear for baby.
Eco-Friendly Bedding
A soft, interlock knit Bamboobino fitted sheet is a great choice for babies with environmental allergies or sensitive skin. The rayon from bamboo fiber is Oeko-Tex 100 certified and made from OCIA & USDA-certified organically grown bamboo.
Nursing Bra
Don’t forget mom! A good nursing bra is vital to support the life-giving work the girls are doing. I used Bravado Body Silk Seamless nursing bras ($50) throughout most of my own nursing career. They’re supremely comfortable even while sleeping, and the one-handed clips make breastfeeding access so easy. After all, moms need every little bit of support they can get!
Convertible Crib
Finally, if you’re considering a big ticket item or going in with a group of friends, check out Oeuf’s modern, eco-friendly furniture line. The Oeuf Sparrow Crib ($995) has a non toxic, water-based finish free of VOC health hazards, and once outgrown, the crib can be converted into a toddler bed.

My new grandson would look adorable in the Wee Urban Organic Romper.
i WOULD get my sister the gardening with young children book as she is due soon and has a child in grade 2 as well. I think this would keep everyone busy!
I would give the AMP pail liner and Motherease diaper pail, so there is something to store dirty diapers between washes.
I would love to give this to my sister: http://go-greenbaby.ca/collections/body-care/products/anointment-baby-balm
I have never seen or heard of pumpkin butt teething oil that sounds very interesting I would say that it would be my item I would like to give for my next baby shower
Id like to gift a peppa waldorf doll they look really nice
There are so many great ideas. It’s hard to go wrong with baby carriers and I would like to get the Chimparoo ring sling for any new mom. Hemp wipes or an AMP swim diaper are probably a little more realistic, though. π
The Wee Urban Organic Sleep Sack would be ideal as a gift for a new mom to be π
Their “Anointment Baby Balm” sounds like it works really well. I might try that out.

I saw a beautiful wood bowl and spoon at that would be a great creative gift.
I would love a diaper sprayer.
I love the Grimm toys. I would choose either the stacking tower or boxes.
I love the play silks and grim toys. I think they’re visually interesting with their soft colours, but also leave freedom for little minds to imagine.
I would give the trino bonding doll as a gift at the next baby shower. Both my littles have loved their dolls that were similar to this one. It’s easy for little arms to hold on too and keep close.
I’d like to gift the Wee Urban Organic Cotton Gown. Sleeping gowns are so convenient for the middle of the night diaper changes! I know I would have loved them when my LO still needed to be changed at every feeding.
I get the group to chip in for the Keekaroo All in One High Chair – it is such a good chair!
ouef sparrow crib. to me that would be one of the main things a person would need for there baby.
I would give the baby parka car seat cover to get them off to a safe start!
The Wee Organic Sleep Sack looks nice but so do alot of Go Green Baby products!!
I like the bamboo whistle.
The bamboobino swaddle would make a nice shower gift.
I would give some nice baby soap, such as the Anointment Baby Calendula Soap. I found having a nice mild soap with my newborn was great — one less thing to worry about!
I would love the Zoochini Baby Towel! So absolutely cute and practical!
I am having my first baby in April, so my baby shower is coming very soon! Something I would love from the site is the Wee Urban Organic Romper in teal
I’d also give a big calibri wetbag – they’re great for cloth diapering, but also just for having in the diaper bag for dirty clothes!
I would say that re-usable nursing pads would also make good baby shower gift for mommy. π
The re-wood guitar would be perfect. Our daughter loves watching daddy play his guitar, and I’m pretty sure it’s because she wants to chew on it!
They have the cutest baby carriers. I would love to try the Tula carrier or give one as a gift
I would give the wee urban organic cotton gown as the middle of the night diaper changes can be difficult when you are half asleep trying to get the snaps matched up correctly. It is so much easier to just use a gown!
I like the Puj tub. I like that it flexes and would fit in more sinks without trouble, so that one could travel with it and still use it!
I would give a medium colibri wet dry bag and an AMP swim diaper. Both useful for swimming and the wet bag can be used out and about for moms who choose to cloth diaper or not.
I would love to give the Wee Urban Organic Cotton Gown in the Safari Print for a shower gift.
I’d have to pick the Earth Mama Tummy Tea for Heartburn! I am currently 20 week pregnant and my heartburn has been getting worse by the day lol!
I would probably give the Earth Mama Angel Baby Baby Bottom Balm and Baby Body Wash & Shampoo set as a baby shower gift.
I would give Earth Mama Angel Baby Bottom Balm, to make sure they have cloth-friendly diaper rash ointment!
Any of the books! I love books for shower gifts!
A pail liner would be a great shower gift as well!
the baby balm would be fantastic for baby’s dry skin
I’d give the Bebe Au Lait Nursing Cover!
I love my Tula, and think it is an amazing shower gift!
The aden+anais organic crib sheets look great!
I love giving books as baby gifts! I like the looks of Hannah on the Farm from Go Green Baby!
I’d love to get Punkin Butt teething oil at my next baby shower (assuming there is another).
I would probably gift the AMP Pail Liner or Bebe Au Lait Nursing Cover. Those are DEFINITELY useful!
Babies need sensory stimulus and the Grimms grasper is perfect with the various colours, texture and movable but safe pieces along with toxic free natural dyes.
I also like the Diaper Sprayer. This would come in handy!
I would purchase the Naked Nursing Tank to giveaway at the next baby shower I attended. I got one when I was nursing my first babe, and it is the best thing ever! It makes discreet nursing a breeze, and I cannot wait to use it again this time around π I would love to share the joy with another momma hahah
I would give the nursing cover. I use mine all the time!
AMP is our favourite but I also like ACs that Go Green Baby carries in stock π
I love adding books into baby shower gifts. Sometimes when you just don’t know what to do with your baby, reading to them is the best! I’d like to get the Animal Rhymes board book and the Alligator Alphabet book for my brother and sister-in-law’s baby shower.
