Dancing the Day Away with Our Sesame Street Friends!

Last weekend we all piled into the car and headed over to the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre to party down with our Sesame Street friends.

Sesame Street Live: Let's Dance!

Almost the whole gang was there: Elmo, Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby, Zoe, Rosita, Telly, Bert, Ernie, Little Bear, the Count, Big Bird, Grundgetta the Grouch (but no Oscar), and my personal favourite, Grover. Led by two live performers, Sesame Street Live: Let’s Dance! was all about, you guessed it, dancing!

From Elmo and his blacklit robot friends doing a “Mr. Roboto” dance, to a hip hop version of “C is for Cookie”, every moment was geared to get kids moving and grooving. (And let’s be honest, parents too!)

There was an extra special element to this show though. The Sesame Street characters came down off the stage for almost every number to dance and interact with the kids in the audience! Unfortunately, I think Tee got a little starstruck and was too shy to get up close. She hung around in the back of the crowd of children bopping along instead.

The songs alternated between new material and well-loved classics like “Itsy Bitsy Spider”, “The Wheels on the Bus”, and “The Alphabet Song”. The catchy music and infectious rhythms had the girls literally dancing in the aisle and got my toes tapping too.

I caught this sweet moment between my two girls as they hugged each other out of sheer happiness to be there.

Tee’s favourite part was watching Bert learn to dance (Cookie Monster put on his legwarmers and channeled some Flashdance as the dance instructor) and getting to see all her beloved Sesame Street characters up close. Kay just loved the dancing!

Sesame Street Live: Let’s Dance! was a really well-done event, and the whole family enjoyed it. The finale came too soon for my girls, and ever since they’ve been asking when they can go back.
