If you’ve been watching Kids’ CBC, then you might have seen the new television show Chirp, designed to encourage learning through imaginative play.
We were excited to hear that Owlkids Books is now publishing Chirp books for preschoolers based on these short episodes! Each book invites readers into a world of adventure where Chirp, Squawk, and Tweet work together to solve problems, using everyday objects and their limitless imaginations. Check out the first four books in the series and stay with me till the end where you can enter to win a Chirp books prize pack for your preschooler!
Each book starts the same way: “Chirp, Tweet, and Squawk loved to play in their playhouse. On this particular day, they were playing…”
In this volume, the three friends are astronauts in outer space when their spaceship, the Yellow Bird, gets hit by an asteroid. They learn that there is no air in outer space, but they patch up the hole and make a rope to rescue Squawk using some modeling clay.
Chirp, Squawk, and Tweet are pretending to be pirates at sea when they are suddenly attacked by a fearsome half shark half squid sea monster. They use a fan to fill the sails and to create a makeshift propeller to escape to safety.
Our intrepid mountaineers are climbing Mount Everest when they learn the hard way that loud noises can cause an avalanche. The three friends build a bridge and a sled from popsicle sticks.
Chirp, Squawk, and Tweet are playing knights when they hear a roar from the fog. Attacked by a sheep dragon, they use rubber bands to fix their catapult and tie up the fearsome beast.
My girls enjoy all four of these books. Kay snuggles in my lap for story time (her favourite is Knights of the Awesome Castle), and Tee proudly reads them on her own. She says she likes the shuid monster in Thar She Blows best.
All four books are available on Amazon, and the next quartet of books to be released this October. And catch Chirp the TV show on Kids’ CBC, weekdays at 7:15am EST, or watch episodes online. Chirp will be on SRC in French starting Fall 2015!
