The Snatchabook, On My Leaf, and In My Tree – Book Reviews #HolidayGiftGuide

Okay folks, this is the last installment in my 2013 Holiday Gift Guide! There are still some open giveaways going on though, so don’t forget to enter (check out the list in the sidebar). I had a lot of fun putting this guide together, but I have to admit it was more work than I thought it would be. I’m going to be taking a few days off starting next week to recharge and spend as much time as possible with my family over the holidays, but I’ll be back in the new year with our regularly scheduled programming and more. I’ve got some great reviews and giveaway hops lined up for you, plus I’ll be documenting my Whole30 nutrition challenge with meal plans and recipes throughout January. Stay tuned, and have a merry and bright holiday!

2013 Holiday Gift Guide

I always say you can never have too many books, and that’s why I’m so pleased to bring you one last set of book reviews as I wrap up this year’s gift guide. I received these books for review courtesy of the wonderful folks at Raincoast Books, a division of Raincoast Book Distribution Inc., an award winning, Canadian-owned book wholesale and distribution company based in my hometown of Vancouver, BC.

The Snatchabook

Books under the tree? Yes please! Read my review of The Snatchabook by Helen Docherty (Sourcebooks) #HolidayGiftGuide

The Snatchabook, written by Helen Docherty and illustrated by Tom Docherty, tells the story of what happens when all the bedtime stories in Burrow Down start to disappear one by one. Little Eliza Brown lays a trap to find the culprit and ends up catching the Snatchabook redhanded. How will they make everything right again?

This sweet story comes in a large, fully illustrated lap book from Sourcebooks. The rhyming text and warm, cozy drawings make this perfect for reading aloud at story time and bedtime. Bedtime stories are an immutable part of our bedtime routine, and I’m sure this will become part of our regular rotation.

For fans of the book, the publisher has made available an educator’s guide and an activity kit. Download the Snatchabook Story Time Activity Kit.

On My Leaf & In My Tree

Books under the tree? Yes please! Read my review of On My Leaf & In My Tree by Sara Gillingham and Lorena Siminovich (Chronicle Books) #HolidayGiftGuide

On My Leaf and In My Tree, by Sara Gillingham and Lorena Siminovich are a hit in my house! These adorable board books from Chronicle Books each have a little finger puppet peeping out from die-cut layered pages. The ladybug and the owl describes their daily activities on their leaf and in their tree, and the last page reveals them safe and cozy with their families.

Kay giggles every time we pull one of these books out. The simple text, sturdy pages, and brightly-coloured cut paper illustrations are perfect for her, and the finger puppet is tons of fun!
