With summer finally here, we spend as much time outside as we can. Tee loves racing around with the other neighbourhood kids on their bikes and scooters, but until now she only had a second hand scooter we picked up from a garage sale. Kids grow so quickly, it just didn’t seem reasonable to spend close to a hundred bucks on a toy that would be outgrown by the end of the summer. So when I discovered this award-winning Mini Micro 3in1 Scooter that grows with your child from 12 months to 6 years, I had to try it out and share with you!
Kay is not quite two, but as a little sister all she wants to do is keep up with her big sister Tee. The Swiss-made Mini Micro 3in1 lets kids as young as 12 months ride like their older siblings. Toddlers start on the floating ride-on seat. At age two, remove the seat to turn it into a stand-on scooter with a shorter O-bar. Then around age three, swap the O-bar for the taller T-bar. The taller bar will fit most kids until their sixth birthday.
The Mini Micro didn’t take very long to put together out of the box. The deck and wheels come preassembled, so all we had to do was put the handle on and install the seat. Converting between stages is surprisingly easy. The seat has two heights and is held on securely with one screw. All you need is the included Allen key to secure the seat or take it off.
The handles are easy to switch between too. See this little red button underneath? Just depress the catch and pull the handle out. It’s recessed so little fingers can’t do it, but it’s easy enough to press with the Allen key.
Both my girls have had a lot of fun using this scooter! I’ve been switching the handles once or even twice a day so both kids get a turn. So yeah, I appreciate how simple it is to swap between them. The detachable handle is convenient for storage too.
As soon as Kay saw the Mini Micro with the seat, she knew exactly who it was for and claimed it for her own. At 22 months, Kay sits comfortably on the highest seat level. The lower seat adjustment would be perfect for even the shortest little legs.
Once Kay saw that the seat came off though, she only wanted to use the “big girl” scooter. I was surprised by how quickly Kay caught on. She doesn’t actually get any speed up (hence no helmet yet), but I don’t think it’ll be long. The three wheels keep the platform stable enough for her to easily stand on it and push off.
At four years old, Tee is the perfect height for the Mini Micro with the full-size T-bar. She loves riding around on it and even remarked how much smoother and faster it goes than her old second hand scooter. Instead of turning the handle to steer, all she has to do is lean in the direction she wants to go. Right now I’m trying to teach her how to use the rear spoon brake instead of just dragging her feet. That gets pretty hard on her runners!
My kids have been enjoying the Mini Micro 3in1 every chance they get. I love that it will grow with them, and I can see both my girls getting years of summer fun out of this scooter. Now that’s a good investment!
