Stay Cool in the Love to Dream INVENTA Sleep Bag

It’s official! The leaves are starting to turn and the nights are getting cooler. While I’m going to miss the long lazy days of summer, I’m also looking forward to the crisp fall air and crunching through the leaves with my kids. Last week I pulled out the kids’ jeans and long sleeve shirts. These cooler nights also mean it’s time to break out the sleep bags.

Both my girls used sleep bags throughout infancy and toddlerhood. When they were infants, I felt much safer with them in sleep bags instead of loose blankets that could be a safety hazard. As toddlers, they were “active sleepers”, to put it nicely, and never kept their blankets on for more than a minute. Just this morning I woke up with Keira’s foot in my face, so she’ll be in sleep bags this winter too.

I got the chance to try out one of Love to Dream’s INVENTA sleep bags, courtesy of Canadian baby gear supplier Cariboo Distribution. These sleep bags come in 1.0 Tog for year round use and 2.5 Tog for winter. As it’s already late September, we received a 2.5 Tog sleep bag with this adorable pink elephant and balloon on the front (also available in taupe and blue).

Of course, the basic job of any sleep bag is to keep your child warm, and the INVENTA bag does that just fine, but I wanted to share some of the extra features that make this sleep bag stand out to me.

The autumn weather has been a little iffy – some nights have been warm, others you can feel the bite of cold weather coming. That makes the INVENTA’s Genius Cooling System, well, genius! On warmer nights, Keira sleeps with both vents open, and it does make a difference to my little furnace girl’s body temperature. There are two cooling zippers – one along the chest in front and one at the bottom in the back. Right now both are open to expose the open weave mesh for more airflow and to help cool her down while she’s sleeping.

The two-way zipper runs down the side and bottom opening up the sleep bag flat so I can (theoretically) settle Keira into the sleep bag without waking her up. And if she were somebody else’s baby, I’d totally agree. Unfortunately, moving a sleeping Keira is like juggling a live grenade. You just never know what’s going to wake her up. Some nights a brass band could march through the bedroom and she wouldn’t stir. Other nights she wakes up if you look at her funny.

A couple more features I like. If your baby’s at the smaller end of the size range, the bottom quarter of the sleep bag folds up and secures with snaps to reduce loose fabric. That means the same sleep bag will fit for longer, saving me the expense of having to buy multiple sizes. And with the travel slots in front and back, we can safely put Keira in the car seat when hubs takes her for a ride to help her fall asleep (and then tiptoe up the stairs desperately hoping tonight she’ll stay asleep during the transfer).

The INVENTA sleep bag has a 100% cotton outer and 100% bamboo lining and filling. The bamboo filling keeps baby warm while keeping the sleep bag light and breathable. Bamboo is naturally hypoallergenic and safe for even the most sensitive baby skin. It’s breathable, antibacterial, and excellent for regulating body temperature. Plus bamboo grows quickly and thrives without the need for insecticides or herbicides making it more environmentally-friendly. I like that too!
