Souris Verte Review: Organic Herbal Remedies for Baby

My five-month-old, Riley, is currently sick with her first cold. She’s still full of smiles even with a stuffy nose and cough, but there’s such a feeling of helplessness when your kids are sick or hurt and you’re not sure how to help comfort them and alleviate their symptoms. When it comes to ouchies and illnesses for young kids, there are very few safe and natural products available from my local drugstores to help.

Souris Verte—or Greenie Mouse for my non-French speakers—is a natural health and hygiene company for babies and families developed by Quebec parents, Jean-Pierre and Marceline. All their products are proudly made in Canada without dyes, synthetic preservatives, perfume, or petroleum derivatives. They asked me to review some of their items, many of which help little ones battle the common cold. Talk about perfect timing!

Souris Verte natural baby products

Eucalyptus Mist

Souris Verte’s Eucalyptus Mist ($12.29 CAD) contains a mixture of essential oils and has a potent eucalyptus scent. It’s designed to be sprayed in your bedroom and on your pillows prior to going to sleep. Eucalyptus is a natural disinfectant, which really puts this bedsharing mama’s mind at ease when I’m trying like crazy to prevent the spread of germs. Its smell also has the benefit of clearing nasal passages and opening airways. One evening I forgot to do it, and Riley was so stuffy. After remembering, I gently lifted my sleeping girl to mist her area of the bed and saw an immediate improvement in her congestion.

This eucalyptus mist is also great for allergy season. We love the smell, and my husband David has actually asked for it to become part of our regular nighttime routine.

Calendula Massage Oil

Though baby massage is a wonderful way to relax and connect anytime, I’ve especially enjoyed giving my girl a little extra pampering while she’s not feeling well. I didn’t do any infant massage with Brooks when he was a baby, so he’s more resistant to it now. Riley, on the other hand, just soaks it up, and so do I. Infant massage has so many benefits, making this Calendula Massage Oil ($18.99 CAD) a worthwhile investment for the special bonding that takes place between you and your baby. It has a mild, relaxing fragrance and doesn’t leave the skin feeling greasy.

Boo-Boo Cream

Souris Verte also offers several products to help heal minor everyday injuries like bumps, bruises, cuts, and scrapes. This Boo-Boo Cream ($18.99 CAD) is as versatile as it sounds. Its antibacterial and anti-fungal properties make it a really useful ointment to keep on hand for things like diaper rash, insect bites, and closed wounds and sores. It’s made up of all kinds of good organic stuff. I won’t embarrass myself by pretending to know what they are and what they do, but you can rest assured knowing that this is one of their many organic products approved by Health Canada.

The cream is cloth diaper safe, so we’ve been using it at the first sign of redness with both kids, and it has stopped those little buns from developing full blown rashes each time. I like the faint green tea scent and the nice, thick consistency which stays put and is also easy to wipe off hands after application. After a few weeks of use, it hasn’t caused any repelling issues with our diapers.

Magic Stick

The Magic Stick ($18.99 CAD) is a must-have for toddlers. Its main active ingredient is Arnica, a wildflower extract that speeds healing of bruises and relieves aches and pains. Sounds like magic, right?

Souris Verte Magic Stick

I’ve been a big believer in Arnica since I had Brooks. His difficult birth left him with a large hematoma on his head that, if left alone, would have taken months to heal and probably would have left a small bump permanently. My midwife gave me some Arnica homeopathics to administer to him, and after a few days, the lump was completely gone!

Now that he’s grown into a wild little creature, bashing into everything in sight and coming to me to kiss his ouchies at least once a day, the Magic Stick is essential for cutting down on healing time. He was scared to try the “medicine” at first, but once I showed him the little mouse on the Souris Verte logo, he was eager to use it. Now I even wonder if he’s inventing injuries so he can run up to me saying, “Mama, I need mouse!”

Final Thoughts

Now that I’ve tried these products and learned more about their Health Canada certifications, I would love to try more of Souris Verte’s herbal remedies. They take their safety, quality, and sustainability responsibilities very seriously. Just because something is labeled “organic” or “herbal” doesn’t always mean it’s safe, so it eases my mind to know that these baby and family products are meeting or exceeding industry standards.

  • I have to admit that it took me too long to worry about what was in the products I put on skin rather than just what I consumed! Love the sounds of the Eucalyptus Mist.

  • we also have been going green & natural. anything that has come up on my daughter or hubby I look for natural product or remedy, After having her I totally understand the products out there are not as they may seem, using broad general words & hidden ingredients.
