Easy Slow Cooker Spice Rub Pork Roast Recipe

After a busy holiday season and making (and cleaning up!) a big Christmas dinner, nobody wants to cook. I know I don’t! Unfortunately, my family still insists on eating, even when I don’t feel like cooking. So I can either order take out or pull out my trusty slow cooker.

Slow Cooker Spice Rub Pork Roast - Prepare this paleo, gluten-free slow cooker pork roast recipe in 5 minutes!

Here’s an easy peasy slow cooker recipe for a delicious pork roast. This is a super easy recipe you can prep in five minutes right in the slow cooker, then dinner can cook itself while you take a nap. Ha! I wish!

I use Worcestershire sauce and a savoury spice mix of garlic, ginger, sage, chili, and pepper to flavour the meat. A little bit of brown sugar adds a touch of sweetness that goes perfectly with the pork. The key here is to rub the spices in before sprinkling on the brown sugar. Once cooked it will create a beautiful crust. For post-Christmas convenience I used regular old Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce (it’s gluten-free), but to be truly clean here’s a paleo version. (And by the way, this is how you pronounce Worcestershire.)

So what to do with all that time you’ll save? Take down the tree and put away all the ornaments and holiday decorations, separate the recycling, do some returns? Sigh. I’d still prefer that nap.

  • 1 teaspoon ginger powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground sage

Instructions

  • Pour Worcestershire sauce over top and sides of roast.
  • Mix up garlic powder, ginger powder, ground sage, black pepper, and chili powder in a small dish to make your spice mix.
  • Sprinkle spice mix evenly over top and sides of roast. Use fingers to rub spice mix into the meat.
  • Sprinkle brown sugar over top of spiced roast.
  • Carefully add water to crock pot, being careful not to rinse off spices or brown sugar.
  • Cook on low for 6 hours.

Notes

Omit the brown sugar and use homemade paleo Worcestershire sauce (link above) to make this recipe Whole30 compliant.
