4 Reasons Silk Bedding is Your Secret Beauty Weapon

We spend roughly a third of our lives sleeping, so why wouldn’t you splurge a little when it comes to your bed?

When I think of luxury bedding, the first thing I think of is silk. Silk sheets sound so posh and luxurious, but I’ve never had the chance to try them for myself. Until now that is. OOSilk specializes in 100% mulberry silk bedding and nightclothes, and they recently sent us a 6 piece silk bedding set in taupe to try for ourselves. The set includes 4 pillow cases, a flat sheet, and an extra deep fitted sheet.

Why Indulge in OOSilk Bedding?

Sleeping on silk is exactly as fabulous as you’d think it would be. Breathable, smooth, and silky with that subtle sheen, it’s the height of luxury!

If you don’t want to spring for a full set of sheets, then you should at least consider a set of OOSilk pillowcases. Silk pillowcases are your secret beauty tool.

  1. Silk contains amino acids and natural cellular albumen which can stimulate skin cells’ metabolism and help retain moisture in your skin compared to cotton or man made materials. That means softer, more hydrated skin. Yes, please!
  2. Sleeping on ultra smooth, silk pillowcases also means less pillow creases and sleep lines which are thought to develop into facial wrinkles over time.

  1. Sleeping on silk is good for your hair too! Hair glides across silk instead of catching or tangling, which means smoother hair, less tangling and split ends, and your blowout will last longer.

I have long, thick hair that tends to frizz and gets easily tangled, especially at the back of my head where it rubs on my pillow. After just one night sleeping on my silk pillowcase, I could tell the difference. My hair felt smoother, and I had fewer knots to brush out the next morning!

  1. And if you have allergies like me, it’s good to know that silk is hypoallergenic and naturally resistant to dust mites. So long, stuffy nose and puffy, itchy eyes! There are so many benefits to sleeping on silk. Count me in!

Caring for Silk

Like most of us, my biggest concern with silk sheets was doing the laundry. You can’t have sheets you can’t wash! Fortunately, OOSilk provides detailed washing and care instructions: hand wash or machine wash separately at 30 degrees Celsius with a mild, non-biological detergent (i.e. no enzymes) designed for silk, then air dry out of direct sunlight. Cool iron on the inside if necessary.

Let’s be up front about this. There will never be a time I choose to hand wash my bedding, so I was reassured that I can use my wool/silk delicate wash cycle. I wash my sheets with Woolite Gentle Cycle detergent and hang them to dry over my second floor railing. The sheets dry quickly, and I haven’t found it necessary to iron them before putting them back on the bed. I think that wash routine is totally doable for me.

  • They sound heavenly. And yes, good to know that you can wash them on the gentle cycle. Thanks for the review. I wonder if they would help keep my more comfortable during the nightly hot flashes?
