Protect Your DSLR Camera on the Go with a Camera Coat

The Blogging Mamas Network LOVES giveaways, so we’ve come together to bring you a fun, open-themed giveaway hop! Each blogger has a prize valued at $25 or more, so be sure to “hop” around on the linky at the bottom of the post to check out each prize!

Just before my oldest daughter was born five years ago, I got my first DSLR (digital single-lens reflex) camera – a Canon EOS Rebel XSi – so I could take a million or so pictures of our soon-to-arrive baby girl. At first I only knew how to turn it on, set it on auto, and point and shoot. But since then, I’ve been working slowly and steadily to learn how to use all the settings and improve my photography skills, and my camera has become a well-loved friend and companion.

This is the big, black beast of a camera bag we got at the same time. Holy Hannah, this thing is huge and fugly! I honestly can’t remember the last time I actually carried my camera in this thing. I have enough to carry around with two kids, one of whom is still in diapers. The last thing I need is another big bag to haul around!

Protect your DSLR camera with a Camera Coat instead of a bulky camera bag

And that pretty little thing next to it? That’s my Camera Coat!

  • Lightweight? Check!
  • Portable? Check!
  • Cute? Check!

As a mom and a blogger, I like to keep my camera with me as much as possible. I never know when something will grab my eye, and I want my camera easily accessible. Rather than drag around the humungous camera bag, I often throw my camera in my purse. And yes, that’s a bad idea for any camera. So this lightweight and lightly padded camera bag from Camera Coats is a lifesaver! It’s just what I needed to protect my camera from bangs, dings, and scratches in my purse and from everyday use.

Protect your DSLR camera with a Camera Coat

I chose the waterproof Glimmer of Paris camera coat with the matching strap. I seriously love this print. The black and white damask is so classically chic, and the black has a a very pretty sparkle to it. The outside is waterproof, laminated cotton. The inside is also cotton, and each Camera Coat has light padding built in. The wide Velcro tab is really strong – there’s no way my camera can fall out of this thing which makes it a perfect camera bag for busy moms and for travel. There are also three slim pockets on the front, just right for securing your lens cap, extra SD cards, a battery, or other small items.

The Camera Coat is lightweight and lightly padded to protect your DSLR camera.

The matching camera strap feels secure to me, but for safety’s sake it would be nice to see more reinforcement where the strap is sewn in. I did notice some loose threads left over from the sewing, but they were easily snipped off to tidy things up.

See that little white strap in the corner? That’s a nice feature that lets me attach my Camera Coat to the camera strap. So when I take my camera out, I don’t have to hold the coat under my arm or shove it in my pocket, or worse yet, accidentally drop it somewhere. The Camera Coat itself is so light that it’s not a problem to let it just hang out there, and when I’m done I can just pop the camera back in, close the flap, and be off to my next photo op.

Keep your DSLR camera safe from everyday bumps and dings with a Camera Coat

Each Camera Coat is handmade in the US from high quality water and weatherproof fabrics, and they come in five sizes to fit almost every camera. Each coat also has a matching camera strap that you can purchase separately. They have a range of designs, including more neutral and guy-friendly designs as well, so I think a Camera Coat and strap set would make a great gift for any photographer in your life!

The Camera Coat is just right for daytripping and trips in your carry on luggage. If you want full protection from falls, airline baggage handlers, and other scary camera mishaps, then use the big bulky bag. But for portability and looks, a Camera Coat is a great option to keep your camera dry and safe from dings, scratches, and everyday bumps on the go.

Camera Coats Community Partnership

I just want to share one more thing that makes me like Camera Coats even more. They partner with TURN Community Services to provide gainful employment for the adults with disabilities who package and ship out each Camera Coat. Bravo!
