The finish line is in sight, folks! If you’re anything like me, by this point you’ve probably lost your motivation for organizing and leading new and exciting day trips and adventures every day. Maybe you need something quiet and low-key to keep your kids busy without requiring a song and dance from you too. Sound familiar? In my house, arts and crafts are how we do it.
We recently received these two girly girl craft kits from Orb Factory, a Canadian company based out of Halifax, Nova Scotia, providing award winning crafts and activity kits in over 60 countries. These were perfect to keep Tee busy (and quiet!), especially while her baby sister is napping.
Princess Palace Treasure Box
Here’s everything that comes in the Princess Palace Treasure Box kit. There’s 560 stickers in that box!
This kit is recommended for ages 5 and up, and I really appreciate that kids don’t have to be proficient readers in order to do this project. The instructions assign a number to each kind of sticker. Kids match up the stickers to the “map”, then just put the stickers on by number! The instructions recommend that an adult stick on the crenellation piece along the lid of each box. I did this part for Tee, but I guess they were too tempting for her because she kept fiddling with them until she half pulled them off twice. Eventually I just glued them down.
This is a really neat project, but it’s BIG! It took us 4 sessions to finish the 3 stacking boxes – and I even helped some. It’s a lot of sticking for younger kids to do at one time, so I wouldn’t expect your child to finish this in one day unless they’re quite a bit older or prepared to spend hours on this. It was a lot of work, but Tee thought it was worth it. She loves keeping her treasures safe and sound in these special boxes stacked on her dresser.
My First Blinglets
The My First Blinglets kit comes with 8 wide plastic bangles in pink and purple, 8 stick on patterns, and 440+ sticker jewels. This project was more manageable for Tee because she could do just one or two bangles at a time. Suggested age on these is 4 and up, and that seems spot on to me.
First Tee picked the colour bangle she wanted, and then she picked the stick on pattern. This part required an adult to get the sticker on evenly and without bubbles all around the bangle. Once that was on though, she was totally fine to read her “map” and stick on the corresponding jewels without any assistance. Of course, older children can design and create their own patterns without the stick on template if they’d like.
Initially Tee struggled with getting the jewels off the clear plastic backing. She kept leaving the gluey bit behind on the sheet. I taught her how to bend the backing while peeling off the sticker and that solved the problem for the most part. Fortunately, there are lots of extra stickers in the kit to allow for some wastage.
And here are some of the final products! Tee loves them! The only issue we had is with the size of the bangles. They actually fit on my wrist. As this kit is intended for younger children, I wish they were a bit smaller so Tee could wear them without them slipping right off.
Any little girl would love to own these craft kits! And if these particular ones aren’t your style, Orb Factory carries over 150 different crafts suitable for both girls and boys of any age.
