Go All Natural with Pickle and Bee Body Care {Win a Pampering Care Package!}

In 2016, Liz experienced a nightmare so many of us dread. A few short weeks after the birth of her third child, she found a lump in her breast. Several weeks later, Liz and her family were devastated with the news that she had an aggressive form of breast cancer.

Anyone who’s been through cancer knows that treatment is grueling, but Liz was determined to do everything she could for the chance to stick around and watch her children grow up. In addition to chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery, and with her oncologist’s encouragement, she set out to make changes to her diet, focus on exercising and stress management, and reduce harmful toxins in her environment.

Liz started experimenting with making her own natural deodorants, and when word started to spread, things just grew from there. Nowadays Pickle and Bee carries a full line of natural products for face, hair, body, men, and even for pets, all made with simple organic ingredients. As Liz puts it, “Pure ingredients for peace of mind.”

And this is Liz now – healthy and committed to doing everything she can to stay that way.

I was inspired by Liz’ story and excited to try out some of her body care products for myself. When our little box of Pickle and Bee samples arrived, the first thing I noticed was how delicious everything smelled. Everything is scented with organic essential oils rather than synthetic fragrances that smell fake or make me sneeze.

Natural Deodorant

Pickle and Bee’s natural deodorants are made with baking soda to neutralize odor. (They also carry a non-baking soda deodorant for sensitive skin made with arrowroot powder and diatomaceous earth instead.)

I tried the natural deodorant in Shine, described as a bright, fresh citrus scent with vanilla undertones. To use, pick up a small amount on your fingers and apply a thin layer to your underarms. It’s oil-based so I just warm it up a bit with my fingers to get it out of the tin and spread evenly.

It’s important to remember this isn’t an antiperspirant that blocks your pores to prevent sweat. But the corn starch does help keep me dry during regular everyday activities, and the baking soda and essential oils keep my armpits smelling good all day without any white residue that I’ve noticed. Bonus, the coconut oil and shea butter base make my armpits feel so soft! The generous 50 gram tin looks like it will last at least a couple of months.

Solid Shampoo & Conditioner Bars

Solid shampoo bars are convenient and eco-friendly. These skip the bottles and plastic, and they clean gently without sodium laureth sulfate (SLS) or other harsh cleansers to strip your hair. Pickle and Bee’s Vanilla Citrus shampoo bar smells amazing and leaves my hair light and clean.

These shampoo bars are formulated with shea butter and argan oil so you don’t need conditioner, but for those of us with long hair who prefer a little extra TLC, Pickle and Bee also makes conditioner bars. The Vanilla Citrus conditioner bar adds extra moisture and shine with organic mango butter and argan oil in the same delicious vanilla and orange essential oil scent.

I found the shampoo/conditioner combo a bit heavy for my hair, but my oldest daughter has thicker, dryer hair, and this combo left her hair soft and made a noticeable difference in taming her frizzy ends.

Shampoo and conditioner bars are a great option for travelling and the gym as you can leave the big, leaky bottles at home. Shampoo bars can also double as body soap, saving even more room in your toiletry bag.

Pickle and Bee shampoo/conditioner bar sets come in Vanilla Citrus, Lavender Lemon, Rosemary Mint, and Sandalwood Lime.

Natural Lip Care

Winter is on the way, and the colder weather definitely impacts my skin and lips. Let me tell you I am in love with Pickle and Bee’s natural whipped sugar lip scrub. Dry, flaky lips are gone in literally seconds with this hydrating formula of fine granules of sugar in ultra-moisturizing whipped shea butter, coconut oil, grapeseed oil, and natural organic flavour oils.

To use, apply a small amount of sugar scrub on your lips and gently rub with your fingers to exfoliate any dead skin cells away for ultra soft, smooth, and kissable lips. All the ingredients are safe and natural, so when you’re done you can just lick away what’s left over. I’m a huge fan of the Veryberry lip scrub – it smells and tastes like a heavenly mixture of sweet raspberry and vanilla – but I should mention it also comes in Margarita (lime/coconut) too. Yum!

I’ve been using Pickle and Bee’s natural lip balm for the past several weeks and I think it’s my favourite of everything in the store. The lip balms are made from an ultra-moisturizing blend of organic raw shea butter, organic coconut oil, organic avocado oil, organic beeswax, and a hint of all natural organic flavouring.

Just like its matching lip scrub, the VeryBerry lip balm is a delicious raspberry-vanilla scent and flavour. The Crush lip balm is ever so slightly tinted with just a hint of colour. It smells just like Grape Crush and tastes like it too! Both lip balms go on smoothly, add a little bit of shine, and do a fantastic job of keeping my lips hydrated and protected for hours, even overnight. Unlike a lot of other lip balms I’ve used, they never feel sticky or tacky.

Pickle and Bee lip balms comes in 7 flavours: VeryBerry, Crush, Creamsicle, Margarita, Minty, Pina Colada, Vani-Latte, and one more tinted version in pink Shimmer.

Body Butter

Made with moisturizing coconut oil and shea butter, this Vanilla natural whipped body butter melts quickly and absorbs well, leaving my skin soft and hydrated. I’ve been using this mainly on my hands, and I love how long it lasts. We’ve all been doing a lot more handwashing this year, and this body butter sticks around even after washing my hands once or twice and helps keep them from chapping.

To be honest, I was expecting more of a traditional one-dimensional vanilla smell, but this is actually scented with a layered mix of organic lavender, vanilla, ylang ylang, and cedarwood essential oils. The light woodsy scent smells warm and comforting without being overly sweet or overpowering.

Bath Truffles

As a busy mom, especially at this time of year, I don’t get much time to pamper myself. I know I’m not alone! Pickle and Bee makes natural “bath truffles,” described as a hybrid between a moisturizing bath melt and a fizzy bath bomb. Getting to review these meant I had to take a nice, long, hot bath with a book. Strictly for informational purposes though, I hope you understand.

I tried both the fruity Mango bath truffles and calming Dream bath truffles (vanilla-lavender). These luxurious little balls fizz up in the tub with a light essential oil scent and leave my skin soft with rich moisturizers like shea butter, coconut oil, and mango butter. Just don’t forget to wipe down the tub after because it will leave a ring. Bath truffles come in a package of two truffles so you get at least two relaxing baths out of them.

Gift It

I’m a big fan of Pickle and Bee, and I think you’ll love their products too. Pretty much anything from the store would make perfect gifts for friends, family members, or for yourself! Special mention to the lip balms that would make perfect stocking stuffers for your tween or teen, and I think every overworked and underappreciated mom should have her own set of bath truffles.
