My Origami Owl Living Locket Story

Big news for personalized jewelry lovers! Origami Owl, known for their beautiful build-your-own jewelry, is now in Canada! In celebration, I’ve partnered with Independent Designer Megan Ganger to talk a little bit about Origami Owl and offer one of my readers a fun giveaway for Mother’s Day. Megan was first introduced to Origami Owl at a party two years ago, and ever since she’s been hugely passionate about the company, jewelry, and her customers.

This is the living locket Megan helped me create.

Beautiful, isn’t it? Building my own necklace was a lot of fun! I picked a large black twist locket base ($16) and sparkly large black face with jet Swarovski crystals ($20) on a 24″ sterling silver curb chain ($20). Then I added a silver Love you to the Moon… and Back plate ($9) to the locket and started browsing through the charms.

I love that there is no “wrong side” to my locket. Even if it gets turned around, the reverse side is so pretty.

The large locket is about 1.25″ across. For my Canadian readers, it’s just slightly larger than a toonie. There were so many different looks, colours, and finishes to choose from in the lockets including silver, gold, rose gold, black, pink, blue, lavender, with crystals or without. I was able to put together the look that exactly fit my style.

I remember seeing Origami Owl lockets a couple of years ago (when they weren’t available in Canada), and the lockets at that time were hinged and closed with a magnet. Since then, they’ve introduced a new style of living locket with a twist on face instead. The face screws on like a jar lid and feels really secure. I definitely prefer this twist on style as I don’t have to worry about the locket accidentally opening up and losing my charms. Plus the bases and faces are sold separately so you can mix and match or buy more than one face to switch them out for a different look.

Each living locket tells a story, and mine tells the story of my family. These are the charms ($5 each) I’m keeping inside my locket right now:

• a silver Love serif charm and a silver crown for the love and loyalty between my husband and me;
• two dark pink daisies for my two little girls;
• a white plumeria flower for the baby we never got to hold; and
• a handful of crystal aurora borealis stardust Swarovski crystals because every woman needs some sparkle.

Some of the plates or locket bases are now engraveable too, allowing you to make your living locket even more personal.
