Mouse & Moose Made My Daughter a Princess for Her Birthday

Every little girl wants to be a princess sometimes, and my daughter is no exception. In between pretending to be a hockey player, a teacher, and a super hero, Tee also likes playing princess, and her birthday was the perfect occasion to dress up. Just look at this beautiful play crown from Mouse & Moose that Tee wore for her special day.

Kristin is the amazing mom behind Mouse & Moose. She lives only a few minutes away from me, which makes me even happier because supporting local home-based businesses is awesome. Kristin designs and makes play food, masks, toys, and dress up props. Everything from Mouse & Moose is handmade from 100% wool felt. Why? Because wool is natural, renewable, and much more durable than polyester felt. Wool naturally repels dust, dust mites, and bacteria, and it’s naturally fire resistant making it a great choice for toys. Wool items will last through multiple children and can be passed down from generation to generation, but at the end of its lifetime, wool is biodegradable.

I really can’t rave enough about the process of working with Kristin on this custom crown. I started by describing what I was looking for, and she sketched a couple different designs for me to look over. Kristin kept in close email communication with me the whole time and sent me photos every step of the way to make sure I was happy with how the crown was taking shape. I loved opening emails from her because I knew I’d get to see more pics of this work of art in progress. The final product was exactly as I had envisioned it.

Each flower was handcrafted and individually sewn to the crown and then to adjacent flowers. They won’t be coming off anytime soon! I know that this crown will stand the test of time and both my girls (they play hard!). The stitching was perfect, and I could see that every detail was made with care. This is the kind of work that a mom would make for her own child, and as a mom that can’t use a sewing machine to save her life, I was really impressed with the quality of the crown that we received.

Tee wore her crown every day of her birthday weekend, and then to school on Tuesday. We were doing birthday cupcakes with her class that day so I told her it was fine, but after that I had to gently remind her that her dress-up clothes need to stay at home.

And of course, Kay had to try the crown on too, but I think she has a little bit of growing to do first.
