MiEssence: Certified Organic Skin Care

As moms, we prioritize taking good care of our families. But what about us? How much thought do you put into what products you use on your skin?

I was recently introduced to MiEssence, an Australian brand of certified organic skin care, hair care, personal care, health care, and cosmetic products. MiEssence is the world’s first extensive range of certified organic skin and body care products. I received a Rejuvenating Skin Essentials Pack for review. The Rejuvenating skin care line is for dry and *ahem* mature skin and comes complete with Cleanser, Conditioner, and Moisturizer.

MiEssence certified organic skin care

Rejuvenating Cleanser

A rich, emollient cleanser formulated with rejuvenating organic geranium, hops and chamomile for dry or mature skin. Softens and freshens, gently removing perspiration and pollution.

MiEssense uses yucca juice to clean instead of soaps or detergents. Yucca juice contains natural plant saponins that gently remove dirt and oils. It’s a cream-based cleanser so it does need to be taken off with a warm face cloth or eventually your pores will get clogged. The extra exfoliation doesn’t hurt either. The cleanser does a decent job of removing my make up, though my eye make up sometimes requires two applications. The directions do state that you need to cleanse twice if you’re wearing make up – the first time to remove the make up and the second to cleanse your skin.

One thing to note, the cleanser doesn’t lather. I’ve learned that lather is uneccesary to clean, but it can be a bit of an adjustment to those of us who’ve learned to expect that from mainstream cleansers and soaps. My skin feels clean and soft after cleansing, never tight.

Rejuvenating Conditioner

A refreshing infusion with organic gotu kola and horsetail and vitamins known to energise and tone the skin. Revitalises the complexion for radiant skin.

Conditioner? What’s that? According to MiEssence, the Rejuvenating Conditioner works to nourish my skin with botanicals, herbs, and essential oils, plus it provides extra hydration for the moisturizer to lock in. It smells like sweet chamomile tea and feels wonderful on my skin.

Rejuvenating Moisturizer

A rich moisturising cream with significant and lasting effects on hydration and softness. Formulated with plant phospholipids, organic herbs, organic fruit and seed oils and butters, and organic flower extracts to nourish and revitalise the complexion. Contains nourishing organic avocado, rosehip seed oil, gotu kola, horsetail and nettle with the beautiful aroma of organic Roman chamomile and rose essential oils.

I really like this moisturizer. It feels light and not at all oily, and my skin feels fresh and hydrated. A little bit of this rich moisturizer goes a long way too.

MiEssence certified organic skin care

I’ve been using this set for the past three weeks. I could tell the difference right away that my skin wasn’t being stripped of its normal moisture the way it was in my previous cleansing routine. I used to get dry, flaky skin around my nose, but that’s gone now. I also notice that my makeup goes on smoother now that my skin is more moisturized. I love how all three products smell – sweetly herbaceous and not perfumy at all. All the scents come from essential oils only and no artificial parfum. Take a look at the ingredient list. I can pronounce everything, and all the ingredients are organic.

Organic Aloe Vera leaf juice, Purified Water, Organic Rosehip Seed Oil, Organic Jojoba Seed Oil, Organic Safflower Seed Oil, Organic Avocado Fruit Oil, Organic Shea Fruit Butter, Organic Sugar-cane ethanol, Non-GMO Lecithin, Proprietary Blend of Essential Oils, D-Panthenol (pro-vitamin B5), Organic Olive Extract, Olive Leaf Extract, Natural Gum, Organic Rose Otto Essential Oil, Organic Roman Chamomile Essential Oil, Organic Chamomile Extract, Organic Gotu Kola Extract, Organic Hops Extract, Organic Horsetail Extract, Organic Nettle Extract.

MiEssence Rejuvenating Skin Essentials Pack - after 3 weeks of twice daily use.

My only quibble is that at first glance, MiEssence seems on the pricey side. You’ll get an average of 150 applications from each bottle of cleanser, 125 applications from the conditioner, and 125 applications from the moisturizer. On a per use basis, the prices are comparable to other high quality skin care regimens, but that still feels a bit steep to this girl who usually uses drugstore brands. Of course, you do get what you pay for, and I noticed a very real difference in how my skin felt after using MiEssence compared to cheaper cleansers/moisturizers I’ve used in the past. I’m thinking this is an area where I need to pamper myself a little more.

I want to share one last thing I love about MiEssence: their commitment to environmental stewardship. I found out their supply chain, manufacturing processes, and freight distribution are 110% certified carbon negative, meaning they offset MORE than they emit in their manufacturing, transportation and promotion processes. All their organic and wild-harvested ingredients are sourced from certified organic land, and in developing countries they buy only from organic farmers who are fair trade protected to ensure that they’re paid directly and fairly. Even the packing peanuts my products came with were made from potato and corn starch. They’re compostable!

  • I love that not only are their products organic, but that they stress a sustainable business in everything from production to distribution. I wasn’t able to find any statement that the products aren’t tested on animals, though, which really surprised me. Perhaps I just missed it? That would be as important to me as the rest. In looking through their products, I would love to try the Skin Essentials Pack (rejuvenating). As I have gotten older, my skin has changed and I have had to stop using some products that worked great for me in the past, but which are now too drying and just don’t make my skin look and feel like I would like it to.

    • Hi Linda,

Regarding your question about animal testing……let me know if this helps. best, anita

Miessence’s commitment to the environment and animal welfare runs to the very heart of what Miessence does – create beautiful, effective certified organic products that benefit the environment as well as people.

We take a holistic approach to animal welfare, starting with the point of origin of our ingredients.

Our independently certified organic status means Miessence products are free from Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) that potentially disrupt the natural ecosystem and which may harm insects, animals and people.

Also, see the statement from our certified organic beeswax supplier.

Our ingredients are free from synthetic chemical pesticides which have been proven hazardous to animals and people.

Certified organic farming practices require a percentage of land be dedicated to natural vegetation which is home and a food source for native fauna.

When we formulate Miessence products, we use natural ingredients with an ancient and proven history. The potency of our ingredients is naturally, not chemically, extracted so there is never a risk of contaminants getting into the environment to harm wildlife.

Furthermore, we’re certified to organic food standards which means our products are good enough to eat, so there is never any need to test on animals. We test new products on ourselves before we bring them to market.

Our commitment to animal welfare has been recognised internationally by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and we are on their list of companies that are cruelty free (as the Miessence parent company ONEGroup).

This commitment to animal welfare and using safe ingredients is also recognised by the Environmental Working Group’s comprehensive database of the cosmetic industry called Skin Deep.

Care for animals should be more than a feel good slogan and a pretty logo on a bottle but rather a tangible and verifiable commitment to the whole environment that supports all life – both plant, animal and human.

Using Miessence is your assurance that products you purchase are better than cruelty free – they actively help sustain and preserve the environment in which animals live.

  • I am also concerned about the high cost of the products but I like that the scents come from essential oils – I am not sure that most women realise that their perfumes/scents smell so artifical

  • love this statement – The human factor is also very important. Our organic and wild-harvested ingredients are sourced from certified organic land.

  • What interests me the most is that in creating their products they actually have a carbon negative footprint! I would love to try the baby wash and the baby bottom mist!

  • Their commitment to environmental stewardship interests me. I’d love to try their Garnet exfoliant!

  • I love that the products are certified organic, and that the company is eco-friendly. I would like to try the baby line, especially the Baby Barrier Balm.

  • I love that they use juice to clean rather than soap and that everything is certified organic before use. I’d love to try the Vanilla Translucent Foundation

  • I love that it’s organic and that it doesn’t take away your natural moisture. I’ve been having a hard time finding a shampoo/conditioner combination that doesn’t leave my scalp too dry, especially with it being winter (and the air is a lot dryer). I would most love to try their Desert Flower Shampoo and Shine Hair Conditioner.

  • Knowing that all ingredients are organic is reassuring. Would love to try the deodorant and baby products!

  • I like that all of the ingredients are certified organic. I would like to try the
    Lemon Myrtle Shampoo.

  • I love that you can pronounce all the ingredients. That is the #1 thing I look for in body products! I’d love to try some of the hair care products

  • I love MiEssence! Their ethics are the most attractive part of their whole company. I use their foundation, and it’s absolutely divine. It goes on like a BB cream, with just a slight tint, nourishing ingredients, and a delicious smell from the essential oils.

  • I only use ALL NATURAL “stuff” on my face and body, problem is, all natural is hard to find…

I would love to try the Purifying Cleanser (oily/problem Skin)

  • I’m very interested in their cosmetics line. I have very sensitive skin and it is difficult to find makeup that doesn’t cause redness, itching, or irritation. I’d really like to try the Translucent Foundation because the ingredients list sounds very nourishing and perfect for sensitive skin. It also sounds like it would provide light coverage, which is exactly what I am looking for in a foundation. I want my skin to be able to breath and look natural.

  • Rejuvenating conditioner! I love smelling products and to have a product do what it says.. give you soft skin!

  • I like your review that it makes your skin feel clean and soft after cleansing, never tight. I’m interested in the Intensive Body Cream

  • Most excited about the Rejuvenating Moisturizer ~ first of all ~ can’t wait to smell the aroma ~ then to feel it ~ would love to win ♥

  • What interests me most about MiEssence is that they don’t use synthetic fragrances (which are a migraine trigger for me). I’d especially like to try the Desert Flower Shampoo.

  • I like the fact that they are 110% certified carbon negative in manufacturing, transportation and promotion processes. I would be interested in trying the Protect B5 Hair Repair.

  • I like they have been in business for about 7 years and I really would like to try the Firming Eye & Neck Product.

  • I eat organic food so I’d now like to try organic skin care/cosmetics. The product I’d most like to try is the Rejuvenating Cleanser.
