May the 4th Be With You! New Star Wars Books from DK

We’re already counting down to Episode VII, so this year’s May the 4th is extra exciting! We recently received two brand new Star Wars books from our friends at DK Books to share with you, just in time for Star Wars Day.

Ultimate Star Wars
Ultimate Star Wars by Patricia Barr, Adam Bray, Daniel Wallace, and Ryder Windham

Ultimate Star Wars is the first encyclopedia released under the auspices of the Lucasfilm Story Group. It covers official canon only, for those who want to know what’s in and what’s out, including updated and detailed information on the Star Wars movie saga as well as events covered in The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels cartoons. Tee has been watching Rebels with hubs lately, so they both enjoyed learning more about those characters especially. It has the right level of detail to give you the back story for all your action figure needs.

At 320 pages, this large, heavy coffee table book is clearly more oriented towards the adult fan, but kids 10 and up will find this engaging as well. Organized in sections focused on Characters and Creatures, Locations, Technology, and Vehicles, this volume is full of movie stills, photos, quotes, back story, facts, and details sure to fascinate even the most discerning Star Wars fan.

LEGO Star Wars in 100 Scenes
LEGO Star Wars In 100 Scenes by Daniel Lipkowitz
Last year I reviewed Star Wars in 100 Scenes, and while this book sounds like it might be similar, it’s not. In keeping with the spirit and feel of the LEGO Star Wars movies, LEGO Star Wars in 100 Scenes takes a more comedic look at the source material and recreates 100 iconic scenes from the six movies using LEGO Star Wars playsets and minifigures. Tee and hubs love leafing through the book and reading the jokes.

They decided to recreate the cantina scene from the book one night before bed.

In comparison to Ultimate Star Wars, this book is very kid-friendly. As it’s mostly visual, even pre-readers can enjoy the book, though it’s chock full of interesting facts about the LEGO Star Wars sets and minifigs. My only wish would have been for this one to come with a limited edition minifigure like most of the LEGO Star Wars books do.

Any Star Wars fan will want these in their collection. Both books can be purchased from Amazon or wherever good books are sold.
