MakeMyBellyFit Maternity and Babywearing Jacket Extender Review

It’s been 9 months since I had Riley. Can you believe that?! She’s been on the outside as long as she was on the inside now, and I’ve been reflecting on the weirdness of pregnant and postpartum bodies. It’s absolutely incredible how dramatically they change in such a short span of time, but it’s a bit alien as well. I loved my pregnancies, but having my body stretched out in all directions to accommodate a tiny human inside of me felt otherworldly at times, and not being able to fit into my regular wardrobe only intensified that feeling.

The MakeMyBellyFit jacket extender is so customizable, it fits comfortably over any type of front carrying baby carrier or wrap as well as pregnant bellies!

Although I had some cute maternity clothing, it would have been such a comfort to be able to wear something familiar. One man from Montreal, while seeing his wife go through this transformation with their first child, decided to do something about it. The frigid winter temperatures—and having to sacrifice his own jacket to fit over her baby bump—prompted him to create the MakeMyBellyFit jacket extender.

Here’s the best part: this jacket extender is so customizable, it fits comfortably over any type of front carrying baby carrier or wrap as well as pregnant bellies! If you love to wear your babies like I do, this means you’ll be able to use the Make My Belly Fit extender beyond the maternity season and for as long as your little ones enjoy being front carried. Which, for Riley, might be until she’s twelve or so.

Look how snuggly this girl is! I could wear her forever.

This jacket extender has impressed me in so many ways. First of all, it was easy to figure out. I’m not much of an instructions reader. I like to try and work it out myself, and I don’t turn to the instructions for help unless I’ve royally messed things up, and I’m starting to swear under my breath.

MakeMyBellyFit was pleasantly self-explanatory and passed my little test.

They make 16 different zip adapters to fit almost any jacket, and it’s simple to figure out which one you need with their online questionnaire. My C1 adapter fits my favorite winter soft-shell coat.

Whether you’re pregnant or baby carrying, you can snap the sides together above and below your belly to eliminate excess fabric and provide a snug fit. They also include a Snaperoo, a little strip of elastic that can be placed anywhere on the extender for even more customization.

I love the certainty of knowing Riley is warm enough when she’s zipped into my very own jacket with me. And for extra cold occasions, they also make a snap-in Warmth Layer made of polar fleece.

If you have a shorter jacket like I do, any excess fabric from the extender folds down and snaps upon itself, keeping it out of the way. The soft-shell material even looks and feels like it was made specifically for my jacket. MakeMyBellyFit offers the extender in three colors—black, grey, and red—so it’s easy to coordinate with different jacket styles. They really thought of everything, and I can’t imagine a better look and fit.

We first wore the extender to a company picnic a few weeks ago. It was a truly dreary and cold day in Washington state, the kind that makes you want to curl up with a blanket and a grilled cheese sandwich, not be outdoors socializing with coworkers. But MakeMyBellyFit saved the day, and Riley and I actually ended up having a great time out in the fall weather, both cozy inside my own jacket. I even got several questions and compliments from other parents!

This is really a must-have if you live in a temperate or cold climate, and it would make a perfect gift-that-keeps-on-giving for any expecting or new parents. I’d recommend making sure the zipper works (with adapters, if necessary) for both parents as well as any other frequent caretakers that enjoy front-carrying. Why should moms have all the fun?

Bring it on, winter! We’re ready for you!

  • I am interested in both features, being able to fit my growing bump and keep my baby warm once he/she is born. I’m due in November and have never needed a winter coat during pregnancy. What a great idea instead of buying a maternity coat brand new!

  • The BellyFit feature i’m most interested in is the adapter . Our cold weather activities are sledding and just playing in the snow !

  • My favourite is the dual functionality, both now while I’m pregnant and after birthing to wear at least one of my younger children. I’d simply like to be warm and cozy in a BellyFit while walking my oldest to the school bus stop all winter!

  • I love that it easily zips right into your current jacket!! My son and I would continue our hiking even in the winter.

  • i love being able to keep my baby warm while babywearing! It’s perfect for fitting any jacket. We love to go to the park still and go to the pumpkin patch

  • I love that you can get more of a bond with your baby currently have a baby on the way due November and it woll be cold and this is perfect for that kind of weather

  • This is an essential product! Its definitely on my must have list. I would love to use this so I could baby wear while going for a walk on a cold fall day.

  • I love that it has a ton of snaps to make it fit coats of different lengths as well as being able to snap in the extra fleece layer. I live in Chicago and it would be amazing to be able to babywear this winter! My daughter is 6.5 months old. It would have been nice to have it while I was pregnant last winter, but I could definitely use this for future pregnancies.

    • Forgot to mention that I would use this for trips to our local conservatory, parks, the mall, etc. Once our first child is old enough to play outside in the snow, it would be great to have this so I can keep an eye on her while I babywear her younger sibling(s).

  • I think the feature I like most about the product for baby wearing is the customizability of panel zippers to fit my regular jackets. I think it is so innovative – the only current option in my house is to wear an oversized jacket, which is cumbersome and frumpy. This product works perfectly for baby wearing while taking the older one to the park or playground. Toddler burns energy, and baby gets fresh air while staying warm. Win win!

  • I would love to be able to go for walks with my 7 month old in the winter and know she’s warm and cozy! The convenience would of it be amazing!

  • I love that it is so versatile, no matter what jacket/coat you are wearing, it will work! I also appreciate that it isn’t made in China. I am always trying to tuck blankets around the baby, it would be cool to just zip and go!

  • I love that it is extremely customizable! From the sip adapters to the extra fleece layer to the snaperoo! This would be awesome for fall farm visits, winter walks and early spring hiking.

  • I love the extra layer of warmth for baby. This will come in handy when the older kids want to go outside and play in the snow.

  • I love that you can keep baby close and this is so functional! Chicago has so many months of winter that this will surely come in handy when our baby comes early next year!

  • We would love to use this for taking our dog to the park in colder weather; it’s so nice to get out and hike the trails. I love that it can be adjusted to be used for maternity wear and also for baby wearing!

  • I really like how it is designed to be worn for pregnancy and babywearing. I would use it on our daily family walks when it gets cold.

  • I love that you can wear all of your own regular jackets..awesome! I’d love this for walks and trips out with baby.

  • I like the fact that it easily fits into your current jacket! I am going to use this to go hiking and walking up town to do errands!

  • It’s always hard to keep my baby warm in the carrier we have now. This makes it easy to keep both him and I snuggle for the winter.

  • I love that it uses an extender. If I want to wear it without baby, I don’t have to use the extender; but if I do want to use it while babywearing, I don’t have to drag the whole thing over both my head and baby’s head, I just zip it on. We probably would just use it while my son goes to the park to play so I can keep me and baby warm. Not very exciting, but my son loves climbing equipment and it beats him climbing the furniture and counters.

  • Big brother has to be walked to school every day in snow, rain, or shine, and I wear little brother (who would appreciate the extra layer of warmth.

  • I love that it extends your coat around your baby carrier, This would be a double warmth for your baby. I could take long walks with my daughter in this jacket, even when it gets a little chillier outside.

  • I would love this extender because we love to babywear on family hikes. This product would help us continue this during the winter months.
