Cloth Diapering Giveaways

Geffen Baby Hemp Jersey Prefold Cloth Diaper and Super Absorbers Review

For my first new product review, Olivia introduced me to Geffen Baby, a U.S. cloth diaper company that boasts a unique fabric blend of 60% hemp and 40% organic cotton. This highly absorbent formula effectively increases the performance of multiple diapering systems and can be safely placed directly against your baby’s skin—a major win for my sensitive little guy.

Geffen Baby on the bum

You’ll have to pardon the headphones…it’s a thing right now.

For the last several weeks I’ve been circulating a few of their Super Absorbers and one of their Jersey Prefolds through our diaper rotation, and I’d like to share a few things that make Geffen Baby stand out from the crowd.

Geffen Baby Jersey Hemp Prefold & Super Absorbers review

Initial Thoughts

The very first thing I noticed is how RIDICULOUSLY SOFT their products are, and after multiple wears and washes, they still feel great. The jersey prefold is particularly comforting, like your favorite t-shirt.

The sizes seemed pretty large when they first arrived in the mail, but the website very clearly indicated that there would be 10% to 15% shrinkage after washing, so I wasn’t worried. If anything, I think I would have opted for even larger sizes to accommodate this natural shrinking process.

Super Absorbers

The Super Absorbers, which started at 5.5”x13”, are now 5.25”x11.25”, an overall difference of about 4.5% widthwise and 13.5% lengthwise. The shrinkage meant that I was unable to use them by themselves as simple inserts inside covers, but I’m glad to say that their high-performance absorbency made them a perfect candidate for overnight use as doublers. For a larger option, I would go with their Super Absorbers Plus which start out at a length of 17”.

Jersey Prefolds

The medium/large Jersey Prefold had even greater shrinkage of about 20% lengthwise (from 16″ to 12.75″) but just half an inch widthwise (3%). This size ended up working perfectly for us though. I pad fold it and lay it inside a cover, and there is enough excess fabric to fold over a few inches in the front for extra absorption right where my son needs it. These prefolds don’t have the traditional strip of extra layers in the middle, but this doesn’t affect the performance at all. Every time I pick it up, I’m surprised by the heavy-duty feel of the fabric compared to other prefolds. These things mean business! I like to use ours during nap times as it easily handles the absorption alone without the need for an additional insert.

The Geffen Baby medium/large size prefold is about an inch wider than my traditional cotton prefolds, but it didn’t add any additional bulk to Brooks’ diaper, and it definitely worked harder for us than plain cotton. Although the material is a lot heavier, we haven’t had any issues with sagging as long as the cover is a good fit.

The Verdict

I would definitely recommend Geffen Baby to anyone who struggles with bad bouts of rash like we do. The 60% hemp content has so many great benefits. Along with super fast absorption and wicking, it has antimicrobial and anti-mildew properties. They design their products to fit with any cloth diaper brand, so they are very easy to work into your rotation if you’re looking for higher performance in your diaper stash.

  • So many choices! I would choose the fleece XL prefold and the super absorbers. I think that would work best for my two year old.

  • I would take the high absorbers because my son pees so much and I need something that can take a punch lol

  • Probably the Jersey pre-fold and high absorbers. I haven’t really researched them, so I might change my mind after reading up but with the little I know, I’d say those two.

  • We have both Super Absorbers (fleece) and Quick Absorbers (jersey) , I love how soft the fleece is for when using against baby’s skin and love how very very trim the jersey material is, you can barely tell it’s there when adding to a pocket diaper, but it holds quite a bit! If I won I’d love to try the longer Quick Absorber Plus inserts and the hemp fleece prefold.

  • If I won, I would try the super absorbers for those heavy-wetting nights ! Thanks for the review and giveaway.

  • I think I would pick the ultra absorbers and the Pakistani Organic prefolds in size medium. I have zero experience with either one of these though so it’s hard to say!

  • I would choose the High Absorbers (3 Pack) and the Jersey Prefold in M/L. They seem very easy to use and clean.

  • I would choose the medium/large jersey prefold and the super abosrbers. I have some small (newborn) inserts which I’ve loved, and I still use for an added boost in my slightly troublesome daytime diapers. I bet the super absorbers could probably turn many of my dipes into a nighttime diaper!

  • I would try the high absorbers because they seem like the best if both worlds. I am super torn on prefolds and want to try them both, but would probably gowith the XL jersey to start.

  • If I won, I’d choose the super absorbers. As a first time mom I have no idea what to expect we’ll need as far as absorbency. Also the Super absorbers look like they’d be easier for my husband when it’s his turn to change diapers.

  • I would choose the Jersey Prefold diapers in Small and the newborn super Absorbers. I’m expecting my second kiddo in the spring and would love to try cloth diapering out!

  • I would love to try any of the non-micro fiber absorbers. I would use these for a night time booster, so something that will keep my baby nice & dry until morning would be great! I have heard RAVE reviews on Geffen baby products, so I would be thrilled to win a set!!

  • I consistently hear great things about Geffen Baby! I’d like the medium/large fleece prefold and super absorbers plus!

  • I’d choose the fleece prefold. I have one and it’s amazing! And I’d also choose the Super Absorbers Plus for my heavy wetter. 🙂

  • Thanks for this review. I’d love to try geffen baby, as our LO is very rash prone and wetting more and more

  • I was lucky enough to win a Geffen jersey prefold & some Quick Absorber inserts. I quickly found out I LOVE Geffen products for their incredible softness, versatility, & absorption. I am always on the lookout for Geffen contests, sales, & preloved on B/S/T now! It’s difficult to find them on B/S/T because no one wants to part with them. I have not found one of their products I do not absolutely love!

  • What kind of cloth diaper brand/model do you recommend for the super soaker? I use mind with bum genius all in ones but they get very bulky.
