Fresh Trends for Spring at Sears Canada #GotItAtSears

This year’s weather has been unpredictable to say the least. Winter coat and boots one day, spring cardi the next, and who knows what tomorrow? West Coast weather is fickle at the best of times, so when it comes to dressing for spring, it’s all about the layers (and a collapsible umbrella stashed in my bag).

I’m not what you would consider fashion forward by any means. I tend to find a few favourites then just wear them all. the. time. So when it’s finally time to refresh my wardrobe (and believe me, it’s time!), I want to see what’s on trend for styles that will look up-to-date but still fit my personality and low-maintenance lifestyle. According to Canadian style expert Liv Judd Soye, here are three of the season’s freshest trends at Sears Canada and tips on how to wear them.

Neo Nomad

Neo Nomad is an updated take on traditional Bohemian style, inspired by patterns and textures from around the globe. Look for pale neutrals and earth tones, hints of pink, and misty blues. Boho-chic crochet details, embellishments, crinkled fabrics, and casual linens give a relaxed yet luxurious vibe.

Here’s my take on Neo Nomad with this outfit I would totally wear to work or to the school pick-up line. A flowy Kensie lace-up sleeveless blouse ($49.99) with these Jacqueline De Yong wide leg printed trousers ($25) and Sears Odette ballerina style flats ($24.97), and a chunky agate cuff bangle ($14.99) that adds to the Boho appeal. Given our unpredictable weather, I’d keep a flowy assymetrical cardi in the car to pair with this.

Liv has these tips on how best to wear this trend this season:

  • Add polish to the rustic feel of this trend with sharp silhouettes or structured details like a block heel, tailored jacket, or a boxy bag.
  • Look for long skirts, ruffles, and soft fabrics in keeping with the Bohemian inspiration.
  • Incorporate this trend in small doses with khaki textiles, crochet details, or global prints.

Le Jardin

Whimsical and romantic, Le Jardin channels the feel of a French garden party. Delicate florals, natural patterns and textures, soft fabrics, lace details, and a pastel palette embody its soft, feminine style.

This flirty ensemble is perfect for a fancy afternoon tea, or a backyard tea party with the kids. A fresh spring floral shift dress from One Fashion by Vero Moda ($59) pairs perfectly with these Sears Tara Sandals in blush ($39.97). Add a pretty pink Jacqueline De Yong moto jacket ($29) for those brisk spring days and an understated Silver Twig & Pearl Drop Necklace ($14.99) to complete the outfit.

Keep in mind:

  • If romantic florals and delicate pastels aren’t for you, consider incorporating this trend with floral prints or feminine details in muted or darker tones.
  • You can also tone down the obvious femininity of Le Jardin’s florals by pairing them with classic denim.
  • Create contrast by pairing a romantic blush coloured jacket with a graphic slogan tee for a more subtle take.

Picnic

This trend features Americana-inspired sportswear blending contemporary details with a classic red, while, and blue palette. Nautical influences and Hamptons-inspired preppy styling combine for a crisp, clean aesthetic.

Here’s my take on the Picnic trend. I’m imagining an outing to the marina this spring in a Tom Tailor Stripe Sleeve Blouse ($89), Sears Dark Wash Denim Capri ($39.97), and Sears Jayne Sandals ($39.97). Accessories include a Sears Striped Canvas Tote ($39.99) and classic 14K Pearl Button Earrings ($129.99). And when the ocean breeze picks up, throw on this Tom Tailor textured bomber jacket ($95) to keep warm and look good doing it.

More tips to keep in mind:

  • Take a risk by adding strong, exaggerated silhouettes like wide leg pants or flared sleeves.
  • Stripes are a wardrobe basic. Find yourself a nautical stripe that looks and feels good on you!
  • Embrace the sportswear trend with a bomber jacket or sporty accessory.

  • It’s always nice to know the latest style trends. I especially like outfit number two – very feminine.
