Eden Juice Launches Its Kickstarter Campaign for Earth Day {Plus a Visa Card Giveaway – 3 Winners!}

Today I want to introduce you to Eden! No, not the Garden, but close. Eden is a new environmentally friendly company that makes fresh, cold-pressed juices from imperfectly shaped fruits and vegetables. Why imperfect fruits and vegetables? Because we know that you can’t judge a book by its cover, and so-called imperfect produce is just as delicious and provides the same exact health benefits as their perfectly shaped counterparts.

Eden’s core belief is that diversity and imperfections are not flaws to be corrected but traits to be celebrated, and they’re using their line of juices to raise awareness about aspects of our culture that threaten diversity, conservation, and overall health.

A Focus on Appearances

Through the magic of digital editing, we can have flawless skin and “perfect” bodies, but at what cost? More and more people seem to view these digitally altered images as the norm, and they’re determined to attain these unrealistic standards even if that means erasing the things that make each of us unique.

Food Waste

Close to 40% of the food grown in the US is thrown away. In many cases, it’s not because the food has spoiled, but rather because the produce doesn’t meet our cosmetic standards. We waste food because it doesn’t look good and ignore the most important part – the health benefits.

Access to Clean, Healthy Food

While perfectly good food is thrown away, over 15 million kids in the US go hungry every day and lack access to good, nutritious food.1 The worst part of it is that the food could be available, if it weren’t ending up in landfills instead of on the plates of those who need it.

Overfed and Undernourished

More than two in three adults are considered overweight or obese,2 and more than one third of children and adolescents are overweight or obese.3 Fewer than 35% of Americans are eating the recommended daily servings of fruits and vegetables,4 so those who aren’t going hungry are overfed and undernourished.

Of course these problems can’t be solved overnight, but Eden is hoping to take one step closer with their line of fresh, cold-pressed juices. Their juices will help limit the amount of food wasted by using produce that consumers and retailers usually throw away for cosmetic reasons. And they’ll also make nutrient-rich food more accessible to those who struggle to get nutritious foods and those who want a simple way to improve their diets.

  • I really like how they are reducing the waste of produce. Wasting produce is something that hurts my heart, especially with the prize (I seriously just paid $8 for strawberries).

  • I must say that I LOVE that EDEN isn’t wasting imperfectly shaped fruits and vegetables just because they look off. I’m all for natural foods, and I’m really excited about EDEN. Thanks for sharing!!!

  • I’ve never tried cold-press juices but i love that Eden isn’t going to be wasting mis-shaped fruit. After all it’s fruit and I’m sure it tastes just as good.

  • Great job on not wasting fruit that isn’t absolutely perfect.the orchard where I buy my apples sells seconds and I often buy them especially for baking.
