Ugh, winter… amiright?
Here in Vancouver we’ve had lots of wet and windy weather lately, but nothing like the subzero temperatures and snow that the rest of the country has been shoveling out from under this winter. Like any good Canadian though, I still know you need to take extra care, and one of those ways is taking extra care of my skin. Even though the worst is over and spring is on the way, I still have dry, tight, flaky skin and easily chapped lips.
I recently had the chance to try some eco-friendly, natural skin care products from Ottawa-based Eco Chic Movement. While they are designed for year round use, I’ve found them particularly helpful and soothing as winter comes to a wet and blustery close. I received some Pomegranate Body Butter and Vanilla Spice Body Butter in beautiful glass Mason jars. I’ve used many body butters over the years, and Eco Chic Movement’s is by far the richest and most luxurious I’ve ever used.
I’ve been using the body butter after every shower and every night on my hands. It absorbs quickly without any greasy feel and stays put on my hands even after washing them. Hours after my shower, I can still feel the extra moisture and softness in my skin. Any of these are excellent reasons to love Eco Chic Movement’s body butter, but what sealed the deal for me is the scent. They do carry an unscented version, but oh how I love the vanilla spice and pomegranate formulas. They’re scented with only pure essential oils, and the vanilla spice in particular smells amazing! I can’t help but take a big whiff every time I open the jar, and my kids give me funny looks when they catch me sneaking sniffs at my hands after I put this on. I will say it’s a slight inconvenience that the lid is in two parts (as Mason jar lids are), but I still love these jars and I’ll be keeping them for reuse once the body butter is done.
I have combination skin, but when winter rolls around, the normal skin patches turn into dry skin patches. Unfortunately my oily T-zone stays oily, but I know that even oily skin still needs moisturizer. I have to be extra careful in what I use though, or I’ll end up with blemishes. I had run out of my regular moisturizer the week before I received my package from Eco Chic Movement, so I was really looking forward to trying their Oily Skin Moisturizer ($22.99).
The moisturizer didn’t disappoint! It feels very light and non-greasy going on, with an almost gel-like feel. I was really impressed when I woke up that first morning and my skin didn’t feel oily at all. And no breakouts! I really, really like this moisturizer, and a little goes a long way too.
Dry, chapped lips need lip balm. Eco Chic Movement’s lip balms ($4.99 each) go on smoothly and protect with beeswax, rice bran oil, avocado oil, and cocoa butter. They are gluten-free, but not vegan. Most importantly, I feel comfortable using them on me and on my kids. I carry the vanilla one in my purse, and Tee has claimed raspberry for herself.
For the kids I received Eco Chic Movement’s foaming, castile soap based Baby Shampoo & Body Wash ($13.99). It has a nice fresh lavender smell (perfect for bedtime aromatherapy!) and works well for washing up in the tub, but because it’s foam, I found I needed a lot of product to shampoo through my girls’ long hair. Because of that, I prefer to use it strictly as a body wash.
Finally, I had the chance to check out one of Eco Chic Movement’s gift jar bundles. Winter Survival in a Jar ($24.99) comes with small, stacking and locking containers of vanilla spice body butter, unscented hand lotion, and peppermint foot cream, along with a peppermint lip balm. They’re small enough to carry around in your purse, or leave them stacked in the jar so everything is in one place.
I already told you I’ve fallen in love with the vanilla spice body butter and lip balms. The peppermint foot cream is a winner too! I convinced hubby to give me a couple of foot rubs with this (the sacrifices I make to review things for you!), so I can assure you it slips well for foot rubs and feels so refreshing on tired tootsies at the end of the day! The hand lotion has a very faint naturally occurring scent from the aloe vera gel and oils used to make it, but it’s so neutral I think it’s unlikely to offend. It goes on light and silky, and absorbs quickly to soothe that tight feeling I get after washing a sinkful dishes or handwashing. I think this would be a much appreciated gift for just about anyone! Think teacher gifts or hostess gifts.
