For all of us in Canada (and many of you in the US), it’s cold and flu season right now. As much as I try to feed my kids healthy and immune-boosting foods, encourage hand washing, and discourage nose picking, I can’t stop the girls from getting sick. Tee’s in preschool, which means she brings home all sorts of germs on a regular basis.
As much as possible, I prefer to treat cold symptoms without drugs and their potential side effects. I like to at least start with non-medicinal ways of keeping my kids comfortable. For example, when they get a cold we use a humidifier at night to help them breathe better and give them buckwheat honey to soothe their coughing. Reusable heat/ice packs are another natural comfort measure for my kids.
When poor Tee got a bad cold a couple of weeks ago, I was happy that I just so happened to have a Warm Buddy Sleep Sheep on hand for review. This large pillow shaped stuffed animal has a pocket in its tummy containing an inner heat pack that can be warmed in the microwave or cooled in the freezer as needed.
I tucked Tee in on the couch with the warm Sleep Sheep on her stomach. The flat shape is great for draping wherever it’s needed. Not only did the heat pack help her tummy feel better, but I’m sure the cute and cuddly character helped her feel a little less miserable.
But even when they’re not sick, the Sleep Sheep helps kids settle for bed. I’ve been using it to warm up the sheets before bedtime, and both my girls love to snuggle with it for naps or at night. At 17″ x 13″, it’s the perfect size to use as a pillow too (for older children only – pillows are not recommended for children under two).
The outer Sleep Sheep cover is washable, a necessity for something that’s used with sick kiddos (or with any kids really). The inner heat pack is filled with rice, and it can be microwaved on high for one to two minutes or chilled in the freezer for an hour or two. Strong Velcro tape keeps the pack securely fastened inside the pocket on its tummy. The stuffing in all on the top of the Sleep Sheep so the heat and cold easily come through the bottom side.
I love that the Warm Buddy Sleep Sheep promotes relaxation and helps provide natural, medication-free relief from aches, pains, and sore tummies. You can even add a few drops of essential oil for some aromatherapy. Try some lavender to help your child sleep better. But even without all that, my kids just like hugging and snuggling with their Sleep Sheep. It’s a hit!
Purchase your cute and cuddy Sleep Sheep for $49.95 directly from Warm Buddy.
