When you’re a kid, there’s a clear hierarchy to birthday months. Spring is the best time, followed by October/November, and then the January to March birthdays. In my experience, the worst time for a birthday when you’re a kid is late December (December 23rd here!), and then summer vacation.
My youngest has a mid-August birthday, but this year, we decided to throw her sixth birthday a little earlier than usual in order to catch all her friends before summer vacay. This was also Kay’s last year at her current school as she’ll be moving to a different school for grade one, so we wanted to be sure to have an extra special birthday party.
We found everything we wanted at Funky Monkey Fun Park in Surrey, BC! There are plenty of indoor play parks around the city, but how many of them have fairground rides too? Funky Monkey Fun Park has a three-story play structure, plus a pirate ship ride, monkey hopper ride, laser tag, and bumper cars!
Even on a Saturday afternoon, the lineups were never very long. Everyone was able to go on as many rides as they wanted. We did need to schedule our group’s laser tag game in advance at the desk. I suggest booking your time at the beginning of your party so you get the time you want.
The 25-foot-tall play structure boasts three levels of active fun, a ball arena with air cannons, 50 foot long triple slide, PlasmaCar race track, and a designated toddler area for the youngest party goers. Kids don’t care of course, but as a parent I was happy to see that all the equipment was clean and well-maintained.
Our guests ranged in age from 3 to 10 years, and there was something here for all of them! All the kids loved the pirate ship and monkey hopper, especially the younger ones who are too little for the full-size rides at Playland. At Funky Monkey, kids only need to be a minimum of 3 years old and 36″ tall to go on the rides (40″ for the bumper cars), or 5 years old to play laser tag.
About an hour and 15 minutes in to our party time, we rounded up the kids and brought them back to our private party room for pizza and fruit. You get one hour and 50 minutes in your party room, but kids can stay as long as they like after the party to keep playing.
Funky Monkey has four party rooms with seating for up to 20 kids and two jumbo party rooms for up to 50 kids. If you’ve got a bigger event (or just want more space), you can even rent the entire place for the whole evening!
You can order party food from the Funky Monkey concession or bring in your own food (must be nut-free, no food deliveries). We brought in our own pizzas, fresh fruit, and a veggie platter. After eats, it was time for cake!

I recommend adding an upgrade to your party for unlimited rides during your party. The Mini Upgrade is $5.99 per child for unlimited pirate ship and monkey hopper rides. The Funky Upgrade (best for kids 5 years of age or older) costs $9.99 per child for unlimited rides on the pirate ship, monkey hopper, bumper cars, plus a game of laser tag.

oh my gosh i am so jealous we don’t have something like this near us. This place looks like a blast. we have a few indoor gyms but not like this where you have rides like a pirate ship and such. That is amazing. my girls would have an absolute blast and never want to leave
That looks like so much fun! You said that you had kids as old as 10… would an 11 year old boy be happy there – at the age where he is starting to think about being cool? My 15 year daughter and her friends would still have fun there, lol.
