Be the Star of the Story! Personalized Book Review

If you’ve been following this blog for a while, then you know how important books and reading are to me and to my family. So when Kay celebrated her birthday, you just know I had a special book waiting for her in her presents! In the last few months Kay has started spontaneously requesting I read books to her so this was a great time to introduce a book specially personalized for her.

Kay received this wonderful hardcover personalized book from Put Me in The Story. Kay, Star of the Story is based on the original Isabella: Star of the Story by Jennifer Fosberry. Kay’s brought me her new book to read several times already, and I’m sure it will remain a favourite for a long time!

The book was simple to order and quick to ship. Just put in your child’s name, who the book is from, a 125 character dedication, and an optional photo of your child. The website does the rest, and then you can preview all the pages in the book with your little one’s name added in.

It’s not just the novelty factor of having Kay’s name in the book though. I love the story itself. In her quest to find the perfect books to borrow from the library, Kay imagines herself as the main character from classic children’s stories Peter Pan, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Black Beauty, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. She is always accompanied by her stuffed mouse which my own Kay loved pointing out on each spread.

As a book-lover, I really appreciate how the story gets kids exploring the power of imagination and developing their love of books and their local public library. The soft yet vividly coloured illustrations (coloured pencils on sueded matboard) draw kids in to the story and capture the magical feel of Kay’s imaginary adventures. This book would make a wonderful birthday present for any little girl!

Put Me in the Story takes classic and award-winning stories and personalizes them to make them truly special. For example, you can personalize Berenstain Bears’ Home Sweet Tree by Stan and Jan Berenstain, Dream Big, Little Pig by Kristi Yamaguchi, and On the Night You Were Born by Nancy Tillman. There are over 40 story books and 15 photo books to choose from – there really is something here to suit every taste and every age. There’s even a Put Me in the Story app that will let you and your child read the electronic version of their personalized books right on your iPad.
