As a proudly Canadian mama, I love finding and supporting other Canadian businesses. And if they’re local, even better! Yaya Baby is a local brick and mortar and online store based in North Vancouver, BC. With two little boys of her own, owner Janelle is a self-professed baby product addict. I asked Janelle to introduce herself and share a little bit of her philosophy and passion behind Yaya Baby.
Hiya! I’m Janelle, Super Picky Mom and Owner of Yaya Baby Boutique. Iβm a mom to two little boys, aged 2.5 and 4.5 years old, and life is busy! When I’m not playing goalie or kissing boo-boos, Iβm spending time with my other βbabyβ β my online and retail store, Yaya Baby. As a βmomβ consumer I was constantly let down by bad quality, over-priced baby gear that I was told I “needed”. Now that I’ve tried so many products and finally found the best of the best, I love connecting with other moms and sharing my favourite mommy lifesavers – items that I consider to really be ESSENTIAL and that my family actually uses and loves. Every item at YayaBaby.ca has been given my personal Picky Mom Stamp of Approval, so that new moms know that what they’re getting is awesome.
Owning my own business is definitely challenging! I constantly feel pulled in multiple directions, needing more time for my business and wanting to spend more time with my kids. Itβs hard work because the business is only as successful as what I put in to it, but I am finding it very exciting to learn new skills. I feel proud when I look at what I have created with my website and store front, and that part of my job is very satisfying, even when I feel stressed. And because I am so passionate about each product that I carry, it doesnβt often feel like work when I am talking to another family about how much I love these items and how they helped me as a mom.
What You’ll Find At Yaya Baby
EAT, SLEEP, and POOP is what babies do best, and Yaya Baby helps new parents stay focused on those essentials. No need to get overwhelmed by the insane amount of unnecessary gadgets out there. Check out their helpful list of Baby Essentials to see what you really need and what you can skip.
EAT – Tons of products to support breast-feeding moms, like nursing tank tops, reusable breast pads, nipple creams, breast milk freezer storage, pumping bras, and a gorgeous locally made bamboo nursing scarf and tee.
SLEEP – We swear by the stretchy Woombie swaddle, a white noise rain machine, plus the GroClock for toddlers.
POOP – We only carry one brand of cloth diapers β AppleCheeks, because they are that amazing. Superior quality and performance, made in Canada, versatile and adorable!
WASH – With Delish Naturals, Earth Mama Angel Baby and Laundry Tarts products your whole family will be sparkly clean and feeling pampered.
WEAR – Our favourite baby-wearing accessories are a Sling Sisters Organic Cotton Wrap and the Tula Baby Carrier (coming soon!).
Yaya Baby offers a gift registry for moms-to-be to help them get set up with the basics instead of getting a bunch of well-meaning, but letβs face it β useless β baby shower gifts. Everyone loves to give gifts that people appreciate and with the Yaya Baby shower registry, everyone is happy!
Want to learn more about cloth diapering? Yaya Baby also hosts free cloth diaper workshops several times a month. Where were they when I first started out?! Mark your calendar for the next cloth diaper workshop on Saturday, April 26, at 10:30. You can register via their Facebook Events Page.
AppleCheeks Cloth Diapers in “Love Happens”
Yaya Baby only carries Janelle’s favourite cloth diapers, AppleCheeks. I recently reviewed an AppleCheeks cloth diaper, and they’re one of my favourites too! Not long ago AppleCheeks released a new limited edition print – Love Happens – and we thought it would be nice to show it off a little.
Love Happens is a gorgeous pinky lavender colour with birds, bees, flowers, and apple slices in pink, lavender, magenta, and contrasting black. For those of you familiar with Winging It, it’s the same print in a new beautiful colour palette.
And here’s Love Happens on the bum.
This is my favourite print so far from AppleCheeks. I love the beautiful colours, and I’d absolutely put this on a little boy too.

I think it’s great you have a brick and mortar store. Shopping online is convenient, but I like to see things in real life. I’ll definitely come to check the store out soon!
They even have a kids’ play area there! (Don’t forget to answer the question about another item you’d like to try from the store in order to get the entry.)
