If you’re like me, you probably have a whole bunch of Christmas and holiday cards lying around your house right about now. I hate to throw them away, but I simply don’t have enough room to keep them all. Of course I keep the handmade ones from my kids, but rather than putting all the rest in the recycle bin, I decided to turn them into pretty handmade tags for gift giving throughout the year and into next December.
I had cards from last Christmas as well as my birthday, so there were lots to choose from. At the start I sketched out each shape carefully placed where I thought they’d look best, but I went freestyle pretty quickly. I thought they all looked good even without planning out each individual tag’s placement on the image.
I did a bunch of the traditional rectangular tag shape, and a few circles too. Of course you can cut out any shape your heart desires. Actually, heart shapes would be really cute for Valentine’s day, especially if you have any pink or red cards!
Once your shapes are cut out, punch a hole, add some string, and voila!
These are such a quick and easy project. Super simple and fun for the kids to make too. Tee made some tags from the Christmas card her Grandpa gave her, and now she can’t wait to wrap up another present!
This is a great idea! I always feel weird doing anything with cards though – as if I’m doing away with the sentiment ? I know it’s but silly it’s true. I’m gonna need to get over that though because keeping all cards for all eternity is not a sustainable plan! Lol
Recycling greeting cards is a wonderful idea. I get some beautiful cards. I will recycle mine into tags as well. Thank you for showing us how appropriate they can bel
Great idea! Love the new look of your blog! Well done!
Recycling greeting cards into gift tags is exactly what my mother used to do over 60 yrs ago 🙂
