We recently went to the Ladner Farmer’s Village Market. It was a beautiful sunny day, and we had a lot of fun checking out all the artisan stands and free samples. While we were there, we picked up a bag of apple chips to snack on. Yum! Teagan kept asking, “Just one more!” She was so sad when the bag was done, and then I thought to myself, “I can do that!” Here’s how I made this delicious and healthy snack.
I used organic Gala apples which were incredibly sweet and perfectly crunchy, but you can use whatever apples you have.
Cut each apple into very thin slices (I borrowed my mother-in-law’s mandoline slicer for this). It’s easiest to start with a flat edge already by cutting off the very bottom of the apple and removing the dried up blossom end. You can core the apples if you want. I didn’t bother.
Lay the apple slices on a piece of parchment paper on a cookie sheet. Make sure the slices don’t overlap or they won’t get crispy. The slices from one medium sized apple will easily fill up one cookie sheet. Incidentally, it was at this point that I realized I need more cookie sheets and more oven racks, and maybe even a bigger oven.
Sprinkle a little bit of cinnamon, nutmeg, or powdered ginger on your apple slices if you want. Use all 3 if you’re daring! They taste great on their own, but the extra seasoning is so yummy.
The best way to cook the apples is at a very low temperature so you’re mostly dehydrating them rather than baking. I set my oven at 225 degrees. Bake the apple slices for one hour, then flip and bake another 50-60 minutes. This is how they look after one hour in the oven. Yes, they will shrink a lot, but that just concentrates the sweet apple goodness into a perfect bite-sized chip.
Take your apple chips out of the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before eating. Enjoy!

I have tried banana chips but never apple chips! Now I can’t wait to get my hands on some to make these. My girls are going to go nuts over them. Stopping by on the Tasty Tuesday hop.
What I love best about apple chips is how crispy they are when fresh. My 3 year old can’t get enough of these.
