Vanilla gets a bad rap sometimes. For some reason “vanilla” has a reputation for being safe and boring. I don’t agree. I love how warm, sweet, and welcoming vanilla smells and tastes. When we buy ice cream, it’s almost always vanilla because everyone likes it and it goes with everything from cake, pie, fresh fruit, in smoothies, or on its own. But I do agree it’s good to spice things up sometimes. You know what else pairs perfectly with vanilla ice cream? SnoSpice!
A few weeks ago I received a care package of four SnoSpice flavours. I was supposed to have the kids help us with a tasting party, but they were asleep so hubby and I tried them by ourselves first. Sorry kids, you snooze, you lose.
Hubby was a little skeptical about the idea. Adding spices to ice cream? He thought it sounded strange.
But I pointed out that people add all sorts of different mix-ins and toppings to their ice cream. Sprinkles, chocolate syrup, candy crumble, fresh fruit, etc. (And if you’re weird like my kids, gummy bears.) So why not spices? And unlike all those other options I mentioned, SnoSpice blends are all natural, vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free, and contain no sweeteners. Because they’re made with real spices and seasonings with no sugar, they’re virtually calorie-free. Just flavour, and nothing else.
Just dish up some vanilla ice cream, sprinkle on as much or as little of your chosen SnoSpice flavour as you like, then stir it in. Each SnoSpice blend is super finely ground so there’s no grittiness or change in the ice cream’s texture.
So which flavours did we get to taste?
Deep Chocolate Sea Salt. This flavour was popular with everyone and hands down my hubby and Tee’s favourite. I was surprised by the richness of the chocolate flavour from just a few shakes of SnoSpice and a good stir.
Cinnamon for Optimists. Kay liked this sweet cinnamon blend the best. It reminds me of a cinnamon bun with icing. Mmm!
Lemon + Basil. To my surprise, this was my personal favourite. I really didn’t expect these flavours to go so well with creamy vanilla ice cream, but a few shakes transformed my ice cream into fresh and savoury lemon basil wonderment. It’s amazing!
Turmeric’d. Honestly, I was a little unsure about this one. Turmeric, cardamom, cinnamon, and cumin on ice cream? But let me assure you it really is good. Different, but very tasty!
With SnoSpice I only have to buy one carton of vanilla ice cream, but everyone gets the flavour they like. Because you’re essentially making your own custom ice cream, you can adjust the flavour to be as mild or as intense as you want. We also have fun mixing the flavours: Deep Chocolate Sea Salt and Cinnamon for Optimists go really well together!
Honestly, SnoSpice is just plain fun too. The kids like mixing “potions” with their SnoSpice, though right now I sprinkle the spices on for Kay (or she’d use up the entire bottle in one go). We’ve had these for a few weeks now, and each jar, even the chocolate, looks hardly touched. These will last a loooong time!
It’s not just ice cream! We’ve also used SnoSpice on plain Greek yogurt for extra flavour without any sugar or preservatives. We don’t usually buy flavoured yogurt because those flavours comes with a ton of extra sugar, but SnoSpice adds fun flavours without anything else we don’t want. And for family members who can’t eat dairy, these go just as well with non-dairy ice creams too. I bet that Turmeric’d would be delicious with some coconut milk ice cream!
SnoSpice also comes in Pumpkin Carriage and Cocoa Cayenne. Simply based on how good the other ones we had were, I want to try those too. Isn’t this time of year perfect for some pumpkin spice? And I love spicy chocolate. I think I’ll get some to share with the extended family this Christmas.

I would like to try Deep Chocolate Sea Salt. I like the flavor of both and I think both would be glorious on vanilla ice cream. The ice cream itself is delicious and the spice would only enhance the flavor. I love ice cream and I like a little bit of spice in my life as well.
Deep Chocolate Sea Salt, YES PLEASE! Love the option to purchase them in sets too!
I’m probably most excited about deep chocolate sea salt but they all sound good! I’m lactose intolerant and there are limited options for yogurt and ice cream so I usually have lots of vanilla on hand. This would be amazing!
