Simple Wellness Rituals: DIY Banana Face Mask and Garnier Whole Blends

Disclosure: Although this post has been generously sponsored by Garnier Whole Blends, the opinions and language are my own.

After delivering my babies, I remember sitz baths as my favourite time of the day. Those warm baths with Epsom salts helped reduce swelling and promote healing “down there”, but even better than that was the 15 minutes of quiet to myself. In those early days, I needed that break from the non-stop nursing, diaper changes, and crying. Oh god, the crying! Those few minutes in the tub with a book helped me keep my sanity.

The kids are older now, but things haven’t changed much. When you’re a busy mom with little ones, you don’t get a lot of time for yourself. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who doesn’t wash my hair as often as I used to, and shhh… my legs might be kinda prickly right now. Or as Kay used to say, “You’re like a cactus, Mommy!”

Simple Wellness Rituals

I don’t get to pamper myself nearly often enough, but every mom needs a break! Nowadays, when I have a few precious minutes to myself, I like to relax in the bathtub with some DIY bath salts or a homemade face mask. I don’t want to mess around with anything that takes too much time, so I love easy face mask recipes made with ingredients I already have around the house.

For example, I always have bananas for the kids, and it turns out they’re great on your skin too! If I’m in a hurry, I just mash up a ripe or slightly overripe banana and spread it on my face for a simple moisturizing mask. I let it sit for 15 minutes or so while I relax in the tub, then rinse it off with warm water. If I’m feeling a little more ambitious, I add half a teaspoon of baking soda for deep cleansing and oil control or 1 teaspoon of lemon juice for extra brightening.

But between the demands of family, home, and work, I just don’t have that much free time to take a hot relaxing bath as often as I might like. So finding small ways to take care of myself is key to my wellness, like my nightly cup of tea or indulging in a small luxury like my Garnier Whole Blends hair routine.

Before getting pregnant, I had no idea that pregnancy could change the texture of my hair. Seven years later and my hair still hasn’t recovered from the demands of growing two human beings inside my body. Hair that used to be sleek, smooth, and shiny in my twenties is now rough and frizzy with flyaways. Of course, I think the trade off is worth it, but I still miss my old hair!

Each Garnier Whole Blend focuses on a unique hair action. Garnier’s new Moroccan Argan and Camellia Oils shampoo, balm conditioner, and hair oil were designed to provide intense nourishment and help dull hair shine again. That’s exactly what I need!

Garnier Whole Blends Moroccan Argan and Camellia Oils Shampoo, Balm, and Oil

I’ve been using Moroccan argan oil for the past few years to help nourish and smooth my hair, so I was totally on board to try Garnier’s new paraben-free Marvelous Shampoo, Marvelous Balm, and Marvelous Oil infused with natural extracts of sustainably sourced Moroccan argan and East Asian camellia oils. The shampoo and balm make my hair feel soft without weighing it down and the subtle floral smell is calm and serene. Hubby likes how my hair feels and smells too!

If you’ve never used hair oil before, you might think that it would make your hair feel greasy, but nothing could be further from the truth. After getting out of the shower, I towel dry my hair and hang my head upside down while I rub the Marvelous Oil through the ends of my damp hair. This way all its goodness is absorbed into my thirsty hair, and the oil never touches my scalp.

For my waist-length hair, I warm three or four squirts of oil between my palms and then gently rub it through the bottom ten inches of my hair. (Shorter hair will need less of course.) The oil absorbs quickly and leaves my hair soft, shiny, and lightly scented.

  • We’re doing a spa bday party for my daughter Saturday. I’ve been looking all over for a mask. We’ll definitely be doing this!!

  • I am so overdue for a relaxing and wellness ritual!! The face mask sounds so easy (and I always have spare bananas ready to turn brown on my counter lol) and the shampoo sounds amazing!!

  • The same thing happened to me after my son was born! I’m so sad my hair got course and frizzy too. I’ll have to keep an eye out for this the next time I go grocery shopping.
