When my babies became toddlers and then grew into preschoolers, I thought I’d be done with teething and chewing on everything. For Tee that was mostly true, but I’m still waiting for Kay to get the memo. Even at four years old, she’s still constantly chewing on things. Toys, her sleeves, fingers – it drives me nuts! I seriously can’t count how many times a day I have to remind her, “Take that out of your mouth, please!” Nagging doesn’t seem to work though, so I thought I’d try redirecting her urge to chew to something more acceptable instead of trying to get her to stop entirely, at least for now.
I was first introduced to Munchables during our annual Made in Canada Baby event this summer, and as soon as I saw their big kids’ necklaces I thought they’d be a great option for us. Sensory “chewelry” is more than just fun fashion accessories, it’s also perfect for older kids that love to chew, like my Kay!
Munchables provide a safe chewing alternative made of durable, BPA-free, 100% food-grade silicone. Laura, the mama behind Munchables, sent each of my girls a necklace and matching bracelet to help us break the habit.
The Munchables Kids Collection features chewelry for boys and girls including adorable beaded necklaces, dog tag pendants, cute bracelets, and zipper pulls. Necklaces come with breakaway clasps for safety’s sake, and all Munchables silicon pieces are easily washable. You can even safely wash them in the top rack of the dishwasher to sanitize.
Kay picked this super sweet owl pendant ($17.99), and Laura made her a matching Sweetie bracelet ($6.99) in the same colours. Actually, custom orders are really easy. Your child can see all the colours and types of beads available at Munchables and design their own extra special necklace or bracelet.
Tee picked out this knotty rainbow necklace ($17.99) and matching rainbow bracelet ($6.99). She loves the bright colours and likes to accessorize with all her outfits. If your child has long hair like Tee’s though, we recommend getting the knotty style because the regular style (without spaces between the beads) can catch and pull long hair.
The girls love their Munchables! Tee loves the bright colours and wears hers whenever she can, and Kay loves the satisfying texture and squeak the owl makes when she chews on it. After several weeks of use, there’s no visible wear to the beads or the owl. While she’s less likely to chew on other things when she’s wearing her necklace, it’s still a work in progress.
Of course, Munchables also offers a complete line of teething accessories for baby. Here are a few of my faves. Any of these would make a great baby shower gift! For a creative gift tag idea, clip the card to one end of a toy clip and attach the other end to the gift bag.
Munchables offers dog tag pendants, beaded necklaces, bracelets, teething necklaces, paci clips, toy clips and so much more! Custom orders are more than welcome, and SHIPPING IS FREE on orders over $60 in Canada or the US. Connect with Munchables on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.
