I know I don’t get to read as much as I would like to. (Though I did actually get to finish the Divergent series over the Christmas holidays!) It seems like there’s always something else that needs to be done first, but after almost five years of this crazy parenting thing, I’ve come to really believe that we need to take some time for ourselves too. Even if it means the house stays messy or the dishes get missed for one night. Even if it’s just for a few minutes when the kids are finally in bed. I also remind myself that role modeling a love of reading is one of the best ways to foster the love of reading and of books in my own kids.

I’m always curious what others are reading, so I invited my readers on Facebook to talk about their favourite genres, favourite books, and what they’re looking forward to reading in the new year. I was surprised how many enjoyed science fiction and fantasy just like me! With their help, I’ve put together this Kobo collection of eBooks selected by moms, for moms. These books run the gamut of science fiction to western, romance to mystery. You’re sure to find something in here that intrigues you. With over 4.2 million titles in the Kobo book store ready to be downloaded instantly, Kobo has something for everyone!

But you don’t have to have an eReader to get started. All you have to do is download the FREE Kobo app, and you can start reading on your desktop, iPhone/iPad, Android, Blackberry, Windows 8, or Windows 8 Phone. Just like that!

The Time Keeper by Mitch Albom. An inspirational fable about the first man on earth to measure time. Banished for centuries for his hubris, Dor must redeem himself by teaching a suicidal teen girl and a terminally ill businessman the true meaning and value of time.

The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan. This fantasy novel begins one of the longest and most detailed fantasy epics ever written as Rand, Mat, Perrin, Egwene, and Nynaeve flee from danger and search for answers when their home comes under attack by trollocs.

The Family Tree by Sheri S. Tepper is one of my personal favourites. In this ecological fantasy, the Earth has finally had enough, and suddenly the trees and plants are taking back the planet. • Yes several capture my interest. I have read Sherri s tepper somewhere else in hardcore it I can’t recall which book?! Anyways she interests me the most because I recognize that name for sure. I have read most of the Picoult books but rarely on kobo.

    • Sheri Tepper is one of my favourite authors! I love her speculative ecological fantasy. It’s sci fi without being all about science, you know? Totally character and story driven.

  • My reading resolutions for the coming year will include “All The Light We Cannot See” By Anthony Doerr and “Something Borrowed” by Emily Griffin.I *-* Lovexxx reading and it is a must to always have a book on the go and the next book in mind already lined up.I love true stories, love stories, and fiction. It is the author who, if they are a great writer, can make me feel like I am living between the book covers ,and depending on the grip of the story, I may or may not want to leave upon reading the last page.
Good luck to all but I am hoping beyond hope to win this awesome contest! Thanks for this opportunity.

  • My reading resolutions for this year are to read at least one book a month. With 3 children under the age of 10, this may be a challenge!

  • I would love to read a book a month, but I know it wont happen, so it’s more like 6 books for the year. the kids get in the way of my own goals.

  • I would love to read for at least 30-60 minutes a day. I slacked off a bit over the past few years and it is something I am working on this year, I find it relaxes me.
