The Princess and the Frog is one of my favourite Disney movies. Of course it has barely anything in common with the original fairy tale, but I love its contemporary setting in early 20th century New Orleans. Despite the personal and societal barriers in her way, Tiana works hard to make her dreams real. I especially love her work ethic, ambition, intelligence, and drive – characteristics to inspire my girls!
Meet Hasbro’s new Disney Princess Royal Shimmer Tiana Doll!
Of all the new Disney Princess dolls we’ve seen so far, I think this face mould bears the closest resemblance to its movie counterpart. Tiana comes with a pretty updo, tiara, glittery green dress inspired by her lily pad dress in the movie, and green shoes.
At first I was a little disappointed that her opera gloves don’t come off (they’re molded and painted on), but then I thought about how much angst it would cause in my home if my kids were able to take them off, because for sure they wouldn’t be able to put the tiny, teeny gloves back on. Good call on the gloves!
Kay has claimed this doll for her very special own. Look, Tiana’s already made friends with Rapunzel! They’ve come to pay a visit to Queen Elsa.
We also received this Disney Princess Little Kingdom Fashion Change Tiana. Like other Little Kingdom dolls and sets, the doll is about 3″ tall. This set comes with two complete outfits – her green lily pad gown and a blue dress – plus three snap-ins. Each outfit is made up of three pieces (bodice, peplum, and skirt) and can be mixed and matched on Tiana as well as with other Little Kingdom dolls. Plus there’s a frog hat!
My girls love playing with their Little Kingdom dolls, but as I’ve mentioned in previous reviews, those snap-ins are really tiny and likely to get lost. On this Tiana doll, the bodice pieces seem especially small as well, so don’t be surprised if they end up between the couch cushions or in the vacuum cleaner.
Tiana has big dreams and ambitions. What does your child dream of being when s/he grows up?

My daughters are still too young to understand the concept of “when I grow up”. Judging by their talents, my oldest will likely fall into something artistic/creative, but I hope for her to want to follow in my footsteps and become an engineer or a scientist, or even a doctor. My youngest, I think, is very well suited to something that requires a high level of manual dexterity, but I call her Dr Tanis and that seems to please her. Ultimately, they will choose their own careers, but I will do my best to show them that there are many non-traditional career options available for women π
My two sons wanted to farm, like their father. They did for a time. Now one is a Federal Potato Inspector and the other one a Supervisor in Alberta.
