Introducing Hasbro’s New Disney Princess Ariel #DreamBigPrincess

I’m pretty sure that The Little Mermaid was the first VHS movie my family ever bought. It doesn’t seem like 27 years ago, but I clearly remember watching and singing along with this Disney classic over and over and over. Sure, the movie turns out almost exactly opposite to the original Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, but I’ve gotten over it by now. What always stood out to me though, was Ariel’s insatiable curiosity. Long before she ever saw Prince Eric, Ariel yearned to learn about life up on the surface, no matter the cost.

Of course I got our copy of The Little Mermaid as soon as it came out on Blu-ray so I could share it with my girls. This month’s Ariel theme might be for me just as much as it is for the kids!

Little Mermaid

Can anyone read these lyrics without bursting into song?

Look at this stuff, isn’t it neat?
Wouldn’t you think my collection’s complete?
Wouldn’t you think I’m the girl
The girl who has everything?

Hasbro’s new Disney Princess Royal Shimmer Ariel Doll ($17.99 CAD) has really vibrant red hair, just like I remember from the movie, and her sparkling dress has pretty seahorse and shell designs on it. I don’t think the face mould on this one is as close to the movie character as last month’s Rapunzel, but my girls don’t care.

We also received the Disney Princess Spin & Swim Ariel ($29.99 CAD), and it came with a very interesting side effect. Would you believe that the girls have started begging for baths now? Seriously. They keep asking, “Can we have a bath now?”

The doll is supposed to float upright but I don’t put that much water in the tub. You’d need something like a foot of  water to see it float – so maybe the kids could take it to the pool this summer instead. The girls don’t care though. They like making her swim under the water and watching Sebastian and Flounder spin around her. (There’s a plastic windup in the back to make them spin.)

Ariel comes with the tail fin and the blue spinning pieces separate. It may seem like they won’t fit together, but you just have to push them together hard until they click. Once you feel the click, they stay together really well. Sebastien and Flounder are removable so when you have two kids in the tub, you can hand the separate pieces out and (maybe) stave off fights over who gets to play with this toy.

Finally, there’s the Disney Princess Little Kingdom Ariel’s Sea Castle Playset ($29.99 CAD) with tons of cute details that the kids love. It comes with a mini Ariel doll, Sebastian figurine, two swings, a slide, and a separate bathtub vanity piece. It also comes packaged with five snap-in interchangeable decorations and a tiny scrub brush. There are three “bubbles” on the playset that store three of the snap-in pieces, but honestly they’re still almost impossible for my girls to keep track of. Disney Princess Little Kingdom Ariel's Sea CastleI want to give a special mention to the mini Ariel doll that comes with the set. I like that it has a mermaid tail, but I love that the tail has a flat bottom so it can still stand upright. The doll also comes with a soft rubber green dress and peplum that fit over the tail. Like all the Little Kingdom dolls, the pieces are interchangeable with other dolls.

  • My favourite Disney Princess as always been Cinderella because she was so nice even when her step-mom and siters gave her a hard time

  • My favourite princess is Cinderella (because some days as a mom of 4 I feel like her lol).. no seriously, I love how she teaches young girls that even in less then desirable situations you can still maintain a positive attitude and be kind when others are not being so kind to you. A person can always be better then their situation, and rise above it.

  • I’ve not really got a favourite, I love them all. I’ve always enjoyed the story of Snow White, such a cheerful soul and making the best of a bad situation.

  • No real clear favorites here. I do like the Tangled Rapunzel. Her personality really allowed her to overcome her upbringing.

  • My favourite Disney Princess is Cinderella. What I like best about her is that she was able to escape a situation that wasn’t good for her to find herself in.

  • My all time favourite princess is Cinderella, she has been my favourite since I have been little, I think it’s because she is so kind and she doesn’t let anything bother her or get her down and everything works out for the best in the end!!

  • My favourite Disney Princess is Belle from Beauty and the Beast because she see’s the good in all no matter what you look like.

  • My favorite princess was always a tie between Arial and Belle, but now my daughter has a favorite of Ariel so I feel like I need to love her the best too, just in solidarity πŸ™‚

  • Love Cinderella because she rose above the negative forces in her life and got her prince. Shows that good things do come to those that deserve it.

  • I think we liked ariel the best cus of the songs…look at these things, arent they neat, dont you think my collections complete….

  • My favourite Disney princess is Rapunzel. I love her innocence, her curiousity, and just love her with the frying pan…lol.

  • Cinderella has always been my favourite princess. I think part of the reason is it was one of the first movies I ever saw at a theatre. My mom took me and not the rest of my siblings so that was special in itself.

  • I have always been fascinated by Ariel, the little Mermaid. I love to swim and I envied her her tail. I thought that was so beautiful and useful. I have always felt that she was treated unfairly by losing her love and being so sad. I felt that she could have had a happier ending because she was so good and kind.

  • I’ve always liked Belle from Beauty & the Beast. She had some moxie, unlike some Disney heroines.

  • My favourite Disney Princess is Ariel, the little Mermaid, she has spunk and is a positive influence on young girls.

  • My favourite Disney princess is Ariel! I have loved her ever since I was a young girl. I don’t know if it was my love of the water or her curiosity, but I just wanted to be like her. I have even convinced my two girls she is the best!

  • We love Cindarella because she is very nice and she also knows how to clean up the messes in life.

  • My favorite Disney Princess would have to be Ariel. I loved her so much when I was a little girl, so envious of how she was able to explore the sea,

  • Too cute! Disney’s got one heck of a merchandising team. (Little Mermaid was totally my first, too. Oh, the nostalgia!)

  • My fave Disney princess is Jasmin b/c she gets to wear pants, and doesn’t go for the rich prince.
