There are two camps in my house. Those who eat cheese and those who don’t. Hubby and little sister Kay love cheese, but they’re allergic to dairy. Let’s take a minute to feel sad for them. Very, very sad! Fortunately, Tee and I can happily eat cheese until the cows come home.
Ever since Kay came along, Tee’s had to adjust to sharing me and my attention. It’s been far too long since we’ve had some quality time for just the two of us, so this weekend we made a mommy-daughter date. Tee always wants to help in the kitchen so I thought the perfect activity would be to make a special cheesy treat together. Hubby took Kay out to play for the afternoon, and Tee and I spent some one on one time together in the kitchen.
I found this Hot Cheesy Crab Dip recipe on the Kraft Canada website and decided to adapt it for our special mommy-daughter kitchen date. Only four ingredients and super easy to make. Perfect!
We picked up a pack of Kraft Creamy Herb & Garlic Shredded Cheese with a Touch of Philadelphia, a tin of canned crab, and some Philadelphia cream cheese. I whipped up some homemade mayo, then Tee got to mix everything together.
Incidentally, I’d never bought shredded cheese before, but I really appreciated the convenience of having it pre-shredded. I like my four year old’s fingers all in one piece, thank you.
Once all the ingredients were well mixed, I spread it in a baking dish and put it in the oven for 15 minutes, stirring at the halfway mark. (We played a hand of Go Fish while we waited.) Then when the dip was melted all the way through, Tee sprinkled more cheese on top, and I put it back in the oven for five more minutes.
Take a look at this melt!
We set the table and sat down to enjoy our dip with some carrot sticks. Yum! This was so good! Even though Tee didn’t want to smile for the camera, she really was enjoying herself and enjoying the creamy dip. Talk about a melt to remember! This is one special memory I don’t want to melt away.
Kraft Shredded Cheese with a Touch of Philadelphia comes in three flavours: Creamy Mozza, Creamy Herb & Garlic, and Creamy Mexicana. Hmm, I sense a theme here: they’re creamy! This special blend delivered a soft and creamy melt that really did make our recipe better!

I have a 4 year old with champagne tastes. Lobster is her favorite she also loves crab cakes and crab dip. I’d cut some high fibre whole grain tortillas into wedges and bake to serve with this as well. Yum!
LOL at “champagne tastes”! I was surprised how much my 4 year old likes seafood too.
I used to not buy shredded cheese. I thought it was expensive and so forth. But I really do enjoy the convenience of having it ready sometimes. My kids love to shred the cheese normally but there are some occasions where I don;t have time to wait for them to do the shredding. So I enjoy this product also. Plus Kraft just makes great products!
Yes, normally I would just shred my own, but in this case it was so much easier and safer to have the pre-shredded. Plus this stuff came with the Philadelphia right in it. Win!
That dip looks super yummy! Thanks for adding the recipe! There is nothing I love more than cheese 😀
What a great recipe! My kids love helping out in the kitchen. i think that it is great learning experience and the experience helps teach your children to appreciate the food they cook. Anything with cream cheese in it is a winner in my book!
Absolutely! My kids are so proud when they’ve helped.
It looks so delicious! I will definitely try your hot cheesy crab dip!
Does that ever look good!!! I love the mommy daughter date – simple one on one time is so special and important. 🙂
We don’t get nearly enough one on one time, so I think both of us really appreciated it.
Your daughter is adorable and I love her cute apron.
My family loves cheese – so many delicious creations can be made.
Thanks for sharing about the Twitter party.
See you there!
I’m a fan of Philadelphia from way back when I was a kid. So this cheese mix sounds amazing – I’ll have to give it a try.

Could she be any more adorable?!! Love that you were able to spend some quality time together, and even better that it was creating such a fabulous dish! I am in total shock that you’ve never purchased shredded cheese before. I am too lazy to shred mine so I almost always buy shredded. lol
Thanks for sharing with us at DDT!!
Thanks, Alesha! I’m lazy in other places, but now that I’ve experienced the convenience of preshredded cheese, we’ll see!
