Hopelessly Hooked on BALM! Baby

As many of my friends and family can tell you, my household is becoming โ€œcrunchierโ€ by the day, replacing many harmful big brand drugstore items with natural alternatives. And you know what? I love it, and I am 100% convinced that our bodies (and planet!) are benefiting from these changes in ways both obvious and unseen. So I was pretty stoked when Taylorโ€™s Pure and Natural sent me several products from their BALM! Baby line specifically formulated with babies and mamas in mind.

Curious about BALM! Baby? Here's everything you need to know about Diaper Balm/1st Aid, Mama Belly, Fresh Out of the Tub, JUICE those WIPES, SPRAY that BOTTOM!, and SANITIZE those HANDS!

Initial Thoughts

This Hawaiian skincare company prides itself on utilizing natural resources with minimal processing to bring their customers safe products and real healing. I definitely feel more confident putting this stuff on our skin knowing I can pronounce all the ingredients. And they smell so goodโ€”bright, clean, and fresh with a citrusy zing!

Another thing that stood out right away was the packaging. Taylorโ€™s Pure and Natural takes their environmental responsibility very seriously, so their containers are made primarily from glass and recycled aluminum. The leaching of dangerous chemicals from plastic containers is a growing concern of mine, especially now that I have a little one to care for, so Iโ€™m really happy this company takes such a strong stand on eco-friendly packaging. I hope to see more of this from other companies in the future.

Diaper Balm/1st Aid ($9.95)
I seriously canโ€™t give this stuff a high enough recommendation. Brooks has a sensitive bum and suffers from horrendous rashes that can oftentimes take over a week to heal. Itโ€™s brutal. Shortly after I received this Diaper Balm in the mail, he got an upset tummy, so we had an opportunity to use it right away. He seemed to experience some relief the minute I applied it, and the rash was almost completely gone in 24 hours. Hallelujah!

Heโ€™s been teething these last two weeks, so weโ€™ve been getting plenty of use of out it. We just apply a little bit at the first sign of redness, and his little bum is back to normal by the next diaper change. This makes my mama heart so very happy to see his suffering eased.

Shockingly, Brooks hasnโ€™t had any scratches or scrapes in the last month! Donโ€™t get me wrong, Iโ€™m glad to report his lack of injuries, but that means that we have yet to try this balm as a first aid ointment. With how well it works on his bum, though, Iโ€™m sure its healing properties are just as good elsewhere.

Mama Belly ($14.95)
With my baby girl due in just a couple of months the countdown is ON! And my body, although doing something absolutely amazing, is in need of a little extra care as we approach the home stretch. I really look forward to using this belly balm each morning. It smells and feels so luxurious, and the moisture lasts all day. The soft whipped formula feels very lightweight, goes on easily, and doesnโ€™t make my clothes greasy. I really love everything about it so far, and if it prevents me from getting additional stretch marks this time around, Iโ€™ll be shouting it from the rooftops!

Fresh Out of the Tub ($9.95)
This shampoo and body wash is a liquid castile soap and uses plant-based fats and oils to gently clean baby from head to toe. Because itโ€™s all natural, it is not tear free, and you do need to be careful to avoid getting it in the eyes. I was worried about this since Brooks can be so squirmy during rinsing time, but with a little extra caution and patiently talking him through it, we havenโ€™t had an issue with this so far. Fresh out of the Tub smells great, lathers up really well, and leaves Brooks feeling squeaky clean afterward. It should last us several months since a little goes such a long way. We use two pumpsโ€”one for hair and one for bodyโ€”and itโ€™s more than sufficient. Honestly, I could probably get away with half that amount, but I love all the suds.

JUICE those WIPES! ($13.95)
So I have a confession to make. After reading Oliviaโ€™s recent post on cloth wipes, I decided to make the switch. Cloth wipes used to be one of my โ€œnevers.โ€ You know those declarative statements you make only to change your mind a short ways down the road? Yeah, I like to make thoseโ€ฆa lot. A year and a half ago it was โ€œIโ€™ll NEVER use cloth diapers,โ€ then it was โ€œIโ€™ll NEVER use them out of the house,โ€ and โ€œIโ€™ll NEVER ask a babysitter to put one on Brooks.โ€ You see where Iโ€™m going with this.

Anyway, after making up my mind to take the plunge, I started looking for a good wipe solution to purchase. Although DIY is normally my style, I concluded that Iโ€™d already be saving enough money by switching away from disposables in the first place, and I could probably find a manufacturer who uses better quality ingredients than I could compile for a reasonable price at home. This led me to try Taylorโ€™s Pure and Natural wipe solution, JUICE those WIPES.

Weโ€™ve been using cloth wipes almost exclusively for about a month now, and Iโ€™ve only used about two teaspoons of the concentrate. So worth it! Like all their other products, it smells amazing, and I love having another weapon in my war against diaper rash.

SPRAY that BOTTOM! ($11.99)
Spray that Bottom is essentially a convenient spray version of their Diaper Balm/1st Aid. I think itโ€™s a good choice for the diaper bag so you can keep your fingers mess free while youโ€™re on the go. To be honest, I havenโ€™t had many opportunities to use it since the Diaper Balm ointment work so quickly. By the time we go out somewhere, Brooksโ€™ rashes are usually healed completely!

SANITIZE those HANDS! ($5.49)
Iโ€™ve been reaching for Sanitize those Hands every day and definitely prefer it over regular sanitizer. I canโ€™t stand having dry hands, so I love how moisturizing this spray feels and enjoy using it at nearly every diaper change. Brooks has a habit of sticking his hands in his mouth to taste anything I apply to them, so I also feel very confident knowing that this product only contains a handful of safe, natural ingredients for my little taste tester. I really love this stuff, and I need to get a second one for the diaper bag.

The Verdict

These products have been so beneficial for me and my family, I donโ€™t think I can ever go back to the big brand drugstore companies. Iโ€™m so happy I had the opportunity to try Taylorโ€™s Pure and Natural Balm Baby line, and, not to sound overly dramatic, but itโ€™s really changed our lives. My son doesnโ€™t suffer from rashes like he used to, and I really believe the long-term effects of using 100% natural products from truly eco-friendly containers will have a positive impact on our bodies and the environment for years to come.
