Galoshes have been around for a long time. Here on the West Coast, they’re a vital part of our wet weather gear. The weather here is unpredictable, to put it mildly. One minute it’s pouring rain, the next the sun is shining, and once in a while we get a little bit of hail thrown in for good measure.
Canadian company Butler has redesigned the classic galosh and created bright and fun overboots perfect for busy kids and moms. Instead of carrying around an extra pair of shoes, these let you wear your regular street shoes inside your boots. Butler kindly sent us a pair of Pink Passion boots for Tee and a pair of Fire Engine Red boots for Kay.
The first thing I noticed when I pulled the boots out of the box was how light they were. Butler Overboots are fully waterproof, super lightweight, and made in the USA. All the materials are non-toxic and environmentally-friendly, with zero traces of lead or plastic toxins. The girls were so excited to receive them they insisted on wearing them right away and getting outside to splash in some puddles. We ended up getting distracted by the sewer grates and even rescued a couple of worms from drowning!
The idea here is to slip the boots over your shoes and go. The pleated front opens up wide to make room, and then the large Velcro tab snugs it back down around the ankle. Tee’s overboots also came with a pair of Butler’s new liners which give her the option of wearing them like regular boots, as well as providing a little extra warmth on cold days.
Can I point out one more feature that proves someone was paying attention to all the details? Look at the back of the boot in the set of pictures below. See that little lip sticking out from the back? Those are perfect positioned to give the toe of the other boot something to step on to help get the boot off.
Unfortunately, we had a bit of a sizing issue. The website suggests ordering one size up from your regular shoe size, but I think we probably should have gone two sizes up as it was very difficult to get Tee’s shoes in. We couldn’t get her running shoes in while they were still on her feet. I had to put them in first and then get her to slip her foot into her shoes. Not the ideal scenario, but it worked. Once we got the shoes inside they fit perfectly and didn’t slip around at all.
For Kay’s boots we did get two sizes up from her regular shoe size. They fit better but it was still a little challenging to get her foot in. I don’t think Kay quite understood how to bend her ankle and adjust her weight to step into the overboot. The overboots are very non-slip and the rubber feels almost sticky, so I think the issue we were having was with the rubber soles of her runners catching along the boot rubber. Her dress shoes with the leather sole slid in much easier, but either way you should be prepared to provide a lot of assistance to younger children.
Overall, these bright and fun boots work great in our wet weather to keep my kids’ feet warm and dry. They’re especially helpful on the walk to school so you don’t have to carry an extra pair of indoor shoes, but be extra careful with sizing.

I LOVE THE TEAL TALES COLOR. I WANT TO WIN THESE FOR MY FRIENDS DAUGHTER. I SURE WISH THEY MADE THIS IN ADULT SIZES. I AM DIABETIC AND HAVE CONSTANT FOOT ISSUES DUE TO NEUROPATHY. WE DON’T GET MUCH RAIN HERE BUT WHEN WE DO IF I HAVE TO GO OUTSIDE IT IS MUDDY. THESE WOULD BE GREAT. THEY WOULD ALSO BE GREAT TO WADE IN THE OCEAN AS I CAN NO LONGER GO BAREFOOT.
i I see Kay on her Big Girl bike and she is so pleased and happy to have this bike. So many children get bikes for Easter and one of my great granddaughters was in that category. I watched her in a video(She lives in Alberta following a trail of Easter eggs and then she sees her first bike.(she’s only three). Then we see her coming back with her new helmet on, looking as pleased as punch. She also exclaimed: ‘The Bunny brought my bike!’ Oh, for the innocence and sense of the newness of everything in these precious young people.
I would choose the red boots for my grandson. He sees a puddle & heads for it…perfect solution!
I would choose green for my daughter. Yesterday she went mudding in her shoes! I was not impressed, but she was please. She got to wash them in the sink. Lots of soap and water.
I like the teal please.
