Star Wars: The Ultimate Visual Guide (Updated and Expanded)

Star Wars Ultimate Visual Guide - 30% off in the DK Movie Maniacs BoutiqueThis beautifully illustrated hardcover book takes the reader through the history and events in not just all six movies, but also the huge range of Star Wars books, novels, comics, video games, and other media. Featuring movie stills, behind the scenes photos, comic book illustrations, concept art, and other visual ephemera, this is a fascinating overview of the entire Star Wars universe.

The Ultimate Visual Guide covers the Old Republic (Episodes I & II), the Clone Wars (Episode III), the Dark Times, the Civil War (Episodes IV-VI), and the New Era. Another chapter goes behind the scenes with a bio of George Lucas and explorations of the design, visual effects, and model-making magic. The last section examines the ways that the Star Wars universe continues to expand through toys, games, weird and wonderful merchandising (like the Darth Vader guitar and C-3PO tape dispenser), LEGO Star Wars, publishing, and video games.

Hubby has been reading short sections to Tee at bedtime (yep, this is bedtime reading for my 4 year old!), and they both love this time together.

Lego Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary (Updated and Expanded)

Lego Star Wars Visual DictionaryTee is a huge Star Wars fan, and after receiving some LEGO Star Wars sets for her birthday, she fell in love with the Star Wars minifigures and build your own sets too. This updated and expanded edition of the #1 New York Times bestselling LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary just came out in May, and Tee couldn’t wait to get her hands on it. She’s been having a great time thumbing through this hardcover coffee table book. It even comes with an exclusive Luke Skywalker minifigure that she was happy to add to her collection.

Chapter 1 covers all the minifigures, vehicles, and sets from the prequel trilogy and Clone Wars, and Chapter 2 covers the original trilogy and expanded universe. Did you know that the UCS Millenium Falcon is the second largest LEGO set of all time with 5195 pieces and a 311 page instruction manual? Of course Tee wants it, but it’s going to be a lot of years and after school babysitting gigs before she gets that one!

Chapter 3 examines specialist LEGO sets like the 2127-piece 12″ tall R2-D2 and the Yoda minifigure in a Santa suit. Chapter 4 goes “Beyond the Brick” with features on designing LEGO Star Wars, special promotional sets, and LEGO Star Wars video games and TV specials. Tee’s favourite part is the Minifigure Gallery at the end of the book with 530 LEGO Star Wars minifigures. Even I found this section fascinating because you can see how the character designs have developed and improved over the years.

reading about Lego Star Wars together

What I love most about these books is the bonding time that Tee and her Daddy have enjoyed together, poring over the pictures, reading excerpts at bedtime, and sharing their love for all things Star Wars.

  • The Star Wars books would be our choice too, there’s quite a few of them to choose from. I also like the Monsters in the Movies book!

  • I did not know there was that many movie books what a great selection to chooses from, thanks for sharing!!

  • I’ll bet my son (38 yrs) has most of these, he’s crazy about Star Wars and Lego is his other passion, especially if it’s connected in any shape or form to Star Wars. Even his kids are influenced by Star Wars now 🙂
