So you guys may remember I have a dog and two kids. As much as I love them, you know what families with a dog and two kids should not have? White carpets, that’s what. No, I didn’t choose them, but we’re stuck with them for right now.
Did you know that dirt in your carpet reduces its lifespan as well as makes it looks grungy? Dirt is abrasive, and walking on dirty carpets rubs the dirt against the fibers, cutting and matting them, which breaks them down and makes your carpet look old and frayed before its time. Regular vacuuming helps, but vacuuming alone isn’t enough to truly clean your carpet. For that you need a carpet washer.
There’s less than two weeks before Christmas, and I need to get the house spick and span for holiday visitors. Luckily, I recently got my hands on the Hoover Turbo Scrub, the other half of the Hoover Clean Team. It took only a couple of minutes to put the Turbo Scrub together out of the box. Just two screws to secure the handle!
First I did my white bedroom carpet. The dog sleeps in here, and after a while, the carpet picks up that doggy smell. Yuck. After a thorough vacuuming with my Hoover Air Cordless, it was the Turbo Scrub’s turn. I used really hot water and the recommended amount of septic safe and biodegradable carpet cleaner in the machine, then got washing.

The scrubbers did a good job getting the grunge out, and I was impressed with how much water the Turbo Scrub recovered out of my carpet after a couple of passes. When I’ve washed my carpets before, the worst part was having a wet carpet all day. The powerful suction and the forced heated air dried my carpet faster than I would have expected. I could walk on it without damp socks in less than three hours! And once it was dry? Everything smelled so clean and fresh. No more doggy odour!
Next I cleaned my filthy entrance mat. This is the mat that catches all the dirt from people wiping their shoes when they come in my front door. I vacuumed the heck out of it then moved it onto the kitchen tiles so as not to wreck my floor. It took me just a few minutes to shampoo the mat, and it looked awesome once I was done. The water was really gross, but since the Turbo Scrub uses a non-spill Smart Tank™ system with an easy pour spot, I didn’t have to worry about getting it all over the place when I dumped it out.

It has four easy to access carry handles so it’s fairly easy to move around even when the water tank is full. Wow. If I didn’t know any better and saw just the dirty side, I would have thought it was fine. But the clean side really puts it into perspective.
I cringe to think how dirty the interior of our vehicle is actually. It doesn’t seem to be dirty but…(cringe).
On another note: 19lb is hefty, but totally worth lugging around seeing how effective it can be. I really have to start saving up for one of these.
Lol, yeah, I didn’t think my rug was THAT bad, until I actually started. I know 19 pounds sounds significant, but I carried it up and down my stairs to do my bedroom and I didn’t think it was too heavy. A bit unwieldy just because of the shape/size, but totally manageable. 🙂
