Get Into Summer Fun with DK Books

The dog days of summer are here, and complaints of, “I’m boooored,” echo through the house. If your kids need a few new ideas to keep them busy, visit the DK Books Summer Fun Boutique this month and check out all the activity books at 30% off. We received My First Doodle Fun!, My First Doodle On The Go!, and The Big Book Of Crafts And Activities for review. Read on to find out what my review crew thought!

My First Doodle Fun! & My First Doodle on the Go!

My First Doodle Fun!     My First Doodle on the Go!

Both my girls have been having a lot of fun with these reusable doodle books. Each board book comes with a wipe clean pen and a sponge eraser built right into the pen cap. The pen wipes off 100% clean with minimal rubbing and no residue or ghosting. It’s so easy even my two-year-old can get the pages clean without my help. The girls love to practice their drawings over and over independently. And when they’re done, the pen stores securely in the attached plastic clamshell case to help keep the pen and book together.

The girls love their doodle books! Here’s Tee decorating and drawing candles on her cupcake.

Kay’s spaceship is a little less recognizable, but she’s having a great time anyway. You might have noticed that Kay is wearing some of her pen (hence why I took off her shirt). Moms, you’ll be happy to know the pen easily wipes off little arms, faces, and kitchen tables, and it washes out of clothes without staining.

We’ve used these books to keep little hands busy while I’m making dinner, doing household chores, and at our local sushi place. These would make a great addition to the waiting room/restaurant/road trip bag of tricks this summer!

The Big Book of Crafts & Activities

The Big Book of Crafts & ActivitiesTee is a crafting fiend! She has been all about the drawing, colouring, painting, and gluing since school got out That’s why I picked The Big Book of Crafts & Activities. I thought it would be fun for us to pick out some crafts for us to do together.

The crafts in this book are aimed at a slightly older age group (7-12 years), but there are still lots of ideas that can be adapted for younger kids and/or accomplished with adult help.

I love the section on car games. I think we can simplify Car Pool and adapt Car Bingo with pictures instead of words so that my four-year-old can play along. I’m sure they’ll come in handy on our drive out to the campsite this summer.

And then there’s this modified Pebble Creature project we did today! We used stick-on googly eyes, pom poms, and a washable marker to make these endearing pet rock people. There’s lots here to keep the kids busy all summer!
