Our Family Days at Big White Resort Started at the #QuakerOatLodge

Last month, my family and I were invited up to Big White Ski Resort in Kelowna, BC, for a special Family Day weekend. Of course, we said yes. What a great opportunity to spend an entire weekend with my family with no work, no housework, no electronics – nothing to get in the way of quality family time!

We started both days on the mountain with a visit to the pop-up Quaker Oat Lodge and a hearty serving of Quaker oatmeal topped with fun fixings like fruit, chocolate chips, honey, and spices. Because nothing warms you up and fills your tummy like oatmeal!

Après Ski oatmeal: maple syrup, cinnamon, and dried cranberries. Yum!

We could choose from four different recipes or custom make our own oatmeal à la carte.

My fave was the First Tracks oatmeal bowl topped with honey, chia seeds, blueberries, and coconut shavings. I’ve already recreated this at home with the addition of a touch of coconut cream. Delicious and nutritious!

Whereas the girls ordered their oatmeal with chocolate chips and gummy bears. That must be what makes them so sweet, right?

The Quaker Oat Lodge was definitely a popular spot to get warm and fuel up for the rest of the day.

Check out how they set up the pop-up Quaker Oat Lodge for the weekend!

After enjoying our oatmeal, we got back outside for more winter family fun. The cold wasn’t going to stop us!

We spent the rest of our day snow tubing, ice skating, riding the gondola, and exploring the mountain.

Ice skating at sunset was spectacular!

More Can’t Miss Family Activities

Unfortunately, the pop-up Quaker Oat Lodge was a one-time deal for the Family Day weekend, but nothing’s stopping you from bringing your own oatmeal with you to start your day off right!

Still, Big White does have lots of other free activities for families. Every afternoon from 4:00-6:00 pm, head up to the second floor of the Happy Valley Day Lodge for live music and free popcorn and hot chocolate for the kids. And every evening from 5:00-6:15 pm, there’s a bonfire next to the ice rink (in front of the lodge) with free hot chocolate for all. At the Saturday evening bonfire, you can enjoy free S’mores with your hot chocolate!

Big White also hosts an Unplugged event every Friday night for families with technology-free family games and activities, and stay late on Saturday night for fireworks on the mountain at 8:15 pm.

  • looks like a lot of fun, and yummy treats. your version sounds yummy, but i’m sure most kids would go down like your daughter’s. lol

  • Beautiful pictures! We do a mini “oatmeal bar” for brunch sometimes with maple syrup, brown sugar, berries and choco chips. Everyone loves it.

  • Looked like a ton of fun! Oatmeal would be the ideal after-ski snack too. It would warm you from inside out.

  • Looks like a great place to visit. My nephew live there. They keep inviting us our. Our daughter and her hubby were in Calgary for 10yrs. we would visit there.
