Encourage Your Child’s Creativity with Magformers #TWCMgifts

Magformers are one of our favourite creative toys right now. We reviewed Magformers’ Math set and Imagine set a few months ago, and the kids still love playing with them all the time. Me too! So I know from first hand experience that these are perfect for this year’s gift guide!

This time we’re reviewing one of Magformers’ most popular sets: Magnets in Motion. This set comes with the same magnetic shapes we love, but kicks it up a notch with a remote controlled rechargeable power generator and moving gears.

Magformers Magnets in Motion construction set includes a power generator and moving gears.

Each BPA-free HQABS plastic shape contains super strong rare-earth neodymium magnets on all sides. The 83-piece Magnets in Motion set comes with 65 of those standard pieces in 8 different shapes, plus a rechargeable power generator, power gear, remote control, 2 hexagonal gear mounts, 6 square gear mounts, 6 gears (4 large & 2 small), and a USB cable. The pieces are compatible with any other Magformers set.

The girls were really excited to play with this, and I love that the power generator came already charged so we could make things move right out of the box. Tee and I built this spinning tower together. Tee’s very focused on building and she looks so serious in this picture, but I guarantee she was having a good time.

The generator spins the purple power gear which moves the small green one, which spins the large yellow gear, which turns the tower. It’s a little wobbly, but it works! (I already mentioned that this set works with other Magformers sets – the tall triangles on top of our tower came from another set.)

I really appreciate how Magformers are such an open-ended toy. Other building toys are intended to build one specific model, but Magformers can be used to build an endless array of structures and models. Even so, one thing I thought was missing was an instruction booklet. Tee wanted to build some of the structures on the front of the box but was at a loss for how to start. I wish there had been some sort of step-by-step tutorial for sample builds included in the box.

Kay’s much simpler structure below soon had a couple of visitors. In fact, the girls frequently use their Magformers to build houses, castles, tunnels, and bridges for other toys to play in and on.

I really wanted to video our Magformers in motion to show you, but my camera’s been acting up lately. Luckily you can take a peek at this video to see what else you can build with the Magnets in Motion set!
