Ugh, winter… amiright?
Here in Vancouver we’ve had lots of wet and windy weather lately, but nothing like the subzero temperatures and snow that the rest of the country has been shoveling out from under this winter. Like any good Canadian though, I still know you need to take extra care, and one of those ways is taking extra care of my skin. Even though the worst is over and spring is on the way, I still have dry, tight, flaky skin and easily chapped lips.
I recently had the chance to try some eco-friendly, natural skin care products from Ottawa-based Eco Chic Movement. While they are designed for year round use, I’ve found them particularly helpful and soothing as winter comes to a wet and blustery close. I received some Pomegranate Body Butter and Vanilla Spice Body Butter in beautiful glass Mason jars. I’ve used many body butters over the years, and Eco Chic Movement’s is by far the richest and most luxurious I’ve ever used.
I’ve been using the body butter after every shower and every night on my hands. It absorbs quickly without any greasy feel and stays put on my hands even after washing them. Hours after my shower, I can still feel the extra moisture and softness in my skin. Any of these are excellent reasons to love Eco Chic Movement’s body butter, but what sealed the deal for me is the scent. They do carry an unscented version, but oh how I love the vanilla spice and pomegranate formulas. They’re scented with only pure essential oils, and the vanilla spice in particular smells amazing! I can’t help but take a big whiff every time I open the jar, and my kids give me funny looks when they catch me sneaking sniffs at my hands after I put this on. I will say it’s a slight inconvenience that the lid is in two parts (as Mason jar lids are), but I still love these jars and I’ll be keeping them for reuse once the body butter is done.
I have combination skin, but when winter rolls around, the normal skin patches turn into dry skin patches. Unfortunately my oily T-zone stays oily, but I know that even oily skin still needs moisturizer. I have to be extra careful in what I use though, or I’ll end up with blemishes. I had run out of my regular moisturizer the week before I received my package from Eco Chic Movement, so I was really looking forward to trying their Oily Skin Moisturizer ($22.99).
The moisturizer didn’t disappoint! It feels very light and non-greasy going on, with an almost gel-like feel. I was really impressed when I woke up that first morning and my skin didn’t feel oily at all. And no breakouts! I really, really like this moisturizer, and a little goes a long way too.
Dry, chapped lips need lip balm. Eco Chic Movement’s lip balms ($4.99 each) go on smoothly and protect with beeswax, rice bran oil, avocado oil, and cocoa butter. They are gluten-free, but not vegan. Most importantly, I feel comfortable using them on me and on my kids. I carry the vanilla one in my purse, and Tee has claimed raspberry for herself.
For the kids I received Eco Chic Movement’s foaming, castile soap based Baby Shampoo & Body Wash ($13.99). It has a nice fresh lavender smell (perfect for bedtime aromatherapy!) and works well for washing up in the tub, but because it’s foam, I found I needed a lot of product to shampoo through my girls’ long hair. Because of that, I prefer to use it strictly as a body wash.
Finally, I had the chance to check out one of Eco Chic Movement’s gift jar bundles. Winter Survival in a Jar ($24.99) comes with small, stacking and locking containers of vanilla spice body butter, unscented hand lotion, and peppermint foot cream, along with a peppermint lip balm. They’re small enough to carry around in your purse, or leave them stacked in the jar so everything is in one place.
I already told you I’ve fallen in love with the vanilla spice body butter and lip balms. The peppermint foot cream is a winner too! I convinced hubby to give me a couple of foot rubs with this (the sacrifices I make to review things for you!), so I can assure you it slips well for foot rubs and feels so refreshing on tired tootsies at the end of the day! The hand lotion has a very faint naturally occurring scent from the aloe vera gel and oils used to make it, but it’s so neutral I think it’s unlikely to offend. It goes on light and silky, and absorbs quickly to soothe that tight feeling I get after washing a sinkful dishes or handwashing. I think this would be a much appreciated gift for just about anyone! Think teacher gifts or hostess gifts.

It makes a great gift
I checked out their site and another product that caught my attention is the Dry Skin Moisturizer- For Face
Hi Kathy,
The dry skin moisturizer is a favorite of many people here in Ottawa with our cold winters. A bonus is you don’t need to use very much
I would like to try the Oily Skin Moisturizer- For Face
Thanks for your interest. It is great to help keep oily skin moisturized without encouraging the production of more oil
I would also like to try the Dry Skin Moisturizer for the face. I always have dry skin in the winter.
Hi Deanna,
It is a great one that is moisturizing without being heavy…and you don’t need to use much

I would like to try the Pumpkin Spice as well as the Pomegrante body butter
Pumpkin spice is a favorite!! Thanks Starbucks
I’d like to try their body butter and their face moisturizer. But I was so excited to see the little mason jars and then I went to their website and pretty much everything is shown as being in plastic containers…
Hello Sabrina,
The seasonal body butters (pumpkin spice, pomegranate, and vanilla spice) as well as the peppermint foot cream come in mason jars. The baby products are not packaged in glass as we have done many polls on our Facebook page (which is where we facilitate most of our direct interaction with customers) and mom’s do not want to use glass with their babies due to risk of breakage
Thanks
I would like to try the baby massage oil.
Baby massage is a great way to help establish a bedtime routine for baby
I would love to try the oily skin moisturizer!! My skin is awful and I bet this would be amazing for me!! Id also love to try the sitz bath!!
The Oily Skin Moisturizer is a good option for anyone with acne prone skin, but who still wants moisture. The oils that are in it hydrate your skin without encouraging it to overproduce oil. Most people find their skin becomes less oily from using this product.
Would love to try the baby massage oil, would calm my fussy little one!
It is a great way to help start a bed time routine, which can lead to a calmer baby
I would love to try the hand lotion, I’m always needing a good hand lotion because my hands get so dry and I wash them a lot as well. Thank you.
I can understand that! I designed this hand lotion which my sister who is an ICU nurse. A few winters ago I had her take in multiple different options to the lounge at her hospital to see which one the nurses found worked the best but was still fast absorbing….and volia the hand lotion was born π
I’d like the Moisturizer for oily skin
Thanks for your interest in the products!
I think the body butter would be great to try
It is a great one for the cold weather!

Because oily skin needs moisture too!
I’d love to try their Peppermint Foot Cream and their Sunscreen. π
Good choices!
I’d like to try any of them, but especially the baby chest congestion rub and baby face cream right now! Still battling a cold and winter dry skin for LO π
The chest congestion rub is a great option for little ones. It can be used on chest back and sides of the nose to help relieve congestion. It is also a good product for pregnant women who are limited in what medications they can take
I’d like the Oily Skin Moisturizer for Face, as that’s one of my big skin issues.
and oily skin needs moisture too
I’d love to try the Body Butter- Pomegranate, Pumpkin Spice and the hand lotion
All good choices!
The Winter Survival In A Jar kit sounds like it contains everything your skin needs during the winter months- perfect!
It is a very popular one for teacher’s gifts and baby showers (to pamper the mama)
Looking for new natural products for my skin. Thanks for the review!
Did you know why I started the company…I was also looking for natural products after learning of the harm of chemicals in skin care products while doing my master’s in breast cancer research. You can check out the story here

I would love to try the Baby Safe Sunscreen. I’m always looking for a good sunscreen for the littles – this sounds wonderful!
It was a very popular item last summer! It rubs in well for a natural sunscreen

Especially in the winter!
I would like to try their unscented body butter. Sounds really nice.
Thanks Polly
I’d like to try the Pedicure in a Jar.
Hi Paige,
Unfortunately our pedicure in a jar is no longer available as too many customers were saying they would rather go get a pedicure than do it themselves π
I’d get my newest nephew some products like the “Baby Massage Oil” or the “Baby Lotion.”
You sound like a great aunt!
I love their products. The lip balm is fantastic. Try the baby face cream, I found it worked great for me.
Thanks Sherry! I am glad the products are working well for you π
I would really like the Baby Shampoo & Body Wash to try it for my granddaughter who has very sensitive skin.
The baby shampoo and wash is a good all in one product for children up to 2. After the age of 2 I suggest transitioning to a different shampoo (once they get “real hair” as it is a baby shampoo) and using it as a body wash. It can be used as a body wash for adults as well
I would like to try the Winter Survival in a Jar.
Great choice! You get to try a little bit of everything that way
I would like to try the Body Butter in Pumpkin Spice.
A popular one for sure
I’d love to try the hand lotion, because it is something everyone in my family uses daily, and these products look great.
A good choice. When going natural it is a good idea to start with the products that are used the most frequently
I would love to try the peppermint foot cream, it sounds moisturizing and invigorating.
You are right
love the sounds of the Pumpkin Spice Body Butter
I have a hard time keeping it in stock in the fall!
I would like to try the Dry Skin Moisturizer-for Face. My skin is very dry!
It would be a good option for you
I would choose for the Eco Chic Diaper Rash cream. I find the best item for a shower or baby shower is a really good and effective diaper rash cream. This is probably the one product that is indespensible, especially if a baby has sensitive skin.
I couldn’t agree more. Such a staple product, and it’s cloth diaper safe π
The pumpkin spice body butter sounds great! Also might have to try the nipple cream come June and this little Squish makes its appearance!
A great idea! Most mom’s who have breastfeed found the nipple balm to be a life saver
I would like to try the diaper cream.
It’s cloth diaper safe as well π
I’d love to try the Pumpkin Spice Body Butter !!
The current one I have has glitter in it. π
I like that it makes my skin soft but I don’t want to look like a hooker. π
