Create a Miniature World with Playmobil

When I was a little girl, the kids with the Playmobil sets were the envy of the class. When little Jenny sneaked her new Playmobil figure to school, we all crowded around at recess wanting to hold it. The expansive play sets, the detailed accessories, those happy Playmobil faces – we loved creating a miniature world that was all ours. You can never go wrong with creative pretend play and Playmobil! Nowadays, Playmobil is still just as awesome according to my kids and my nephew, so I’ve got a couple of fun sets to show you, perfect for gifting for the holidays.

Drago’s Ship ($59.99 CAD) comes straight out of the How to Train Your Dragon franchise, but kids don’t need to have seen it to enjoy this fun play set. Drago’s ship really floats (there’s styrofoam hidden in the bottom), and it comes with a dragon cage, two functioning ballistae that shoot fiery bolts, a Drago Bludvist figure, an evil henchman, spears, and other accessories.

I love all the little touches that always make Playmobil sets so much fun to play with, over and over. Drago’s cape comes off, the sailor has a removable wolf hood, and they both have spears. The ballistae really shoots plastic bolts, and the dragon cage “locks” shut. It’s big enough for two kids to play with, and seeing as it floats, be prepared for the occasional dragon battle in the bathtub!

If that doesn’t float your boat (sorrynotsorry), take a look at this year’s Santa’s Workshop Advent Calendar ($31.99). I have to say that Advent calendars are some of my favourite toys to give. They last the whole month, and the ones with toys last even longer than the chocolate ones. The kids love counting down to Christmas with a Playmobil treat every day!

It’s never too late to start an Advent calendar! Ours isn’t finished yet of course, but opening up the day’s window and seeing what’s hidden behind is the highlight of my kids’ day. They get to open it after dinner once their chores are done. You’d be surprised how quickly their chores get done these days! The set comes with a fold out, stand up card stock backdrop of Santa’s workshop and the snowy reindeer yard to set up all the figures once they’ve been revealed.

The calendar contains 24 surprise toy items, all designed to decorate Santa’s workshop. Includes Santa Claus (of course!), 3 elves, a reindeer with sleigh, gifts, and toys. There’s even a lantern that really lights up with the included battery. And after the holidays, these figures and toys will join the rest of the kids’ Playmobil toys for continued play value all year long.
