Canada Screams for Ice Cream on June 24 #TreatYourCommunity

“Ice cream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!” This summer, Sobeys Inc. is celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday (and Sobey’s 110th) with a community giving campaign that pairs ice cream and helping kids. It’s a match made in heaven!

On Saturday, June 24, visit your local Sobeys, Safeway, or IGA store and make a $2 donation for a cold ice cream treat that’ll warm your heart!

100% of the funds raised from Canada Screams for Ice Cream on June 24 will go to more than 100 local youth-focused charities across Western Canada providing healthy meals and snacks for kids. Sobeys will match all the donations raised, to a total of $100,000.

Your donation will stay in your community and go towards helping kids right in your area. Funds raised in Vancouver will be donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Coast BC. Having used their services myself as a teenager, I can’t think of a better cause to donate to!

Curious which worthy charity your local store is supporting? Discover your local charity here.

But that’s not all! Canada Screams for Ice Cream also kicks off the launch of Sobeys’ Kids Paying-It-Forward program. 150 kids from participating charities will each receive $500 in gift cards to donate to a community group that has helped their family, friends, or neighbours. That’s $75,000 in donations going towards helping Canadian charities shape future leaders and caring Canadians!

Mark your calendar for June 24 and bring the whole family down to enjoy a cool treat and help support kids in your community at the same time!

  • My mentor was my mother, but at one time nope and I even left home when I was 16, but thankfully I grew up and listened to what she was saying and I turned my life around!

  • I have to say my husband has been my mentor in my life he has helped me so much over the years and has helped me stay positive with my disease and kept me strong through the hard parts.

  • Yes it is important to give back to the community. I always donate clothes to the Diabetes clothesline and I give at the stores when there is an important cause.

  • I think mentorship is important because it sets a model for the mentoree. They look up to that person and want to make that person proud or be like them. So the mentor has to be a good model for them to follow

  • Yes it is important to give back to the community. Just as it ‘takes a village to raise a child’ so it takes a whole community to make it such, a community. I love volunteering at the homeless shelter.

  • I try to volunteer and give back tommy community, I think it’s important to model generosity and community spirit to my children.

  • Yes it is very important to give back to your community. It shows you care and sets a good example for the younger generation.

  • I think it is great if you can both volunteer and donate your time. However, depending on your situation in life, you might not be able to do one or the other. At this point in my life, I have small kids so to try and volunteer is hard. I donate money and tell our kids what the money will do for others so they know a little bit more about our world.

  • I think that it is very important to volunteer. I am a volunteer with Girl Guides of Canada (and I do not have a child enrolled anymore) and I also volunteer for my son’s hockey organization. It is an amazing feeling knowing that you give back to the community.

  • It’s really important to volunteer. We’ve volunteered for helping with our son’s activities – the local Community Club, Scouts (for which we stayed for ten years after our son outgrew it), and sports. My husband ran a fencing club for many years, and I now volunteer as a speed skating judge. It’s a great way to connect with other people, and were still friends with people we volunteered with 30 years ago.

  • It is important that we all donate, or volunteer in our community, because there are so many families that are in need of assistance in one way or another. We should also get our children involved in helping, so that they learn to appreciate what they have and be aware that others can use assistance.

  • It is important to me to volunteer in my community. I mostly volunteer at the school reading with struggling readers. I do it because I enjoy it.

  • It’s important to donate and volunteer in your community- we need a more caring, giving society.

  • It is very important for me to donate in my community. When I was a little girl, my family really struggled. There was a woman who helped us every year with food, toys and basic necessities. I admired her kindness and vowed to myself that when I grew up, I would do the same…and I do. It feels so good to make someone else happy.

  • I think it’s important to volunteer in your community or donate when you can. It feels good and even better getting your kids involved.

  • It’s important to volunteer in your community because it gives you a sense of the bigger picture and realize that working together is better! Our kids adopted our street and pick up trash on it once a month.

  • It’s important to give back because there is someone out there wishing they could have what you have.

  • I think that it’s important to donate in some form or other, whether it’s your time, money, clothes or food, for those less fortunate than yourself. It’s a lovely warm feeling when you know that you’ve helped others.

  • Yes, it is important to donate to the community. We have a community garden that uses volunteers and the profits from this go to the food bank. I give clothes to the shelters. Blankets and dog and cat food can go to the Humane Society and they always need people to walk the animals.

  • Yes! It’s super important to donate to charities. There are so many needs in our communities and around the world. Volunteering is also essential.

  • I prefer to volunteer as I enjoy the hands on action but if not donation is a minimum. We all must work together to create change where change is needed!

  • I think it is super important to donate/support/volunteer in your community, because it is only as strong as the people and time contributing to it.

  • It is important to me to donate or volunteer in my community. We donate clothing and house hold items. We also donate to food drives and collect for them.

  • Yes it is important to volunteer and donate in a community to make the community a better place for all.

  • It is very important to donate and volunteer in ones community! I try to do it as often as I can.

  • It is very important to give to the community and the people in need…my dad always told us as kids, it’s better to give than receive…and he was right, when I give I feel good…

  • It is important to donate or volunteer in your community to help others and teach your kids to do so too.

  • It is very important to me to donate whatever I can (whether it is food, clothes, money, etc.) and also give any spare time to charities such as local animal shelters, homeless shelters and so on because you just never know. Today you could be living well and the following week you could have a circumstance that could make you homeless or destitute.

  • When you have so much, it doesn’t take a lot to realize that there are people who are in need and would love to be as blessed as you are, Giving back is a way to share your blessings.

  • I think its important to give back to the community. the kids and i give to the savation army, food bank and donate to the diabates association

  • I have donated to many charities and there are 2 that I continually donate to and that’s the Humane Society and a Christmas charity for the Red Cross where you adopt a family and provide everything they need for a great Christmas

  • It is incredibly important to contribute to your community through volunteer work. The strength and vibrancy and sense of fellowship in your community is only as good the amount of effort you put into it.

  • I think volunteering and giving to your community is a great way to teach your kids about compassion and helping others!

  • Yes It is very important to volunteer … as it helps me say thank you for all the blessings we have in our family .

  • It is important to support the community. We usually volunteer for elections in our community or donate when we don’t have time.

  • When my kids were still young I used to volunteer for school events when able. My daughter did this as well when she was in high school (the family fun night in the elementary or the library etc) There is not a whole lot of volunteer stuff in our town, we are lucky enough to still have TA’S in our schools.

  • I’m in my 30s and have been volunteering weekly since I was 14 (starting as a candy striper in a local hospital). I might not feel like the richest family (by far) most days, but I know that I have a lot that other people don’t have and feel it’s important to give back to the community.

  • It is important to donate or volunteer in your community to help others that are less fortunate. Getting the whole family involved helps build a caring and giving community.

  • It is important to me to donate or volunteer in my community – I volunteer at my daughter’s school and we donate to the Food Bank when we can.

  • it’s very important to support communities. it takes a village to raise a child and the better the village, the better the support. thanks

  • It’s so important to give back – we’re very lucky at the place that we’re in in our life, but it wasn’t always this way. During those hard times, the support of the community went a long way, and it’s our duty to pay it forward now.
